Motordyne MREV2 Installation

So as I was sitting here all winter dreaming of driving my car as the snow came down, I read about motordyne's MREV2 which is from what I under stand a 03-05 lower plenum that has been machines to increase some air flow and provide some more low end power to the 06 Rev up motors. As you know the Rev Up makes ~300bhp, and this is apparently at the cost of mid range power and torque. A lot of people who have installed this plenum, a spacer, and had a tune done picked up around ~25 hp. Some people state more, some less. So I couldn't hold the cabin fever in anymore and bought it.

The install went pretty smoothly, if you have installed a plenum spacer is basically the same steps, plus you have to take it a step further and take off the lower plenum. In all it probably took me around 2 hours to complete, but I was taking my time, and stopped for lunch.

Lower plenum removed. It looked pretty cool and kinda made me with I had a different intake manifold to show it off more.

Side by side comparisons. You can see that the runners are longer and smaller on the MREV2 (on the left)

Everything Put back together. Doesn't even look I did anything so I added some stickers for another 50whp each.

Nice! Once you get those new shoes on her, you'll have to tell us how everything works out. Upgraded brakes, new wheels and tires, and a lower plenum upgrade. I'm jealous!

Let us know how those stickers register on the butt dyno- :nana:

:dunno: I don't get it. How can that MREV design improve performance? I guess I haven't read much about it since I got the Crawford plenum.

Hi Guys I don't mean to be kicking a dead horse but I can't find any more info on how the MREV 2 really makes a difference with the Plenum Spacer on a rev up engine.

I used to have a plenum spacer on the car, and parted the mods to sell but the car came back to me.

Now I'm thinking about doing her up again, but after coming across this info I'm trying to figure out if its necessary. If I remember correctly without the MREV 2 it still pulled like crazy and was an improvement over stock.

I used to run the Pure Innovations Plenum Spacer.

I am not completely sure, it is all in the design of the lower plenum. The MREV is just a modified VQDE plenum. I am assuming that the shorter more open runners on the rev up lower plenum is what makes the higher top end HP, verse the tighter longer runners which put more down low.

If you have a 2005 or older, the MREV plenum will not make much if any difference. The biggest areas of improvements come on the rev up motors where everything was changed.

I would send Motordyne an e-mail and see if they can explain it better then I can. I know they have a rep on my350, he may also be able to explain it better then I can.

Cool cool, so from what I understand, there are still gains to be had with a normal spacer, regardless with or without the MREV2, its just with the lower plenum from an older model DE it would have the best overall gains?

Correct, on the Rev up models the Mrev2 and a spacer provide the most gains. Just having the spacer on a DE motor will provide gains, and putting an Mrev on it from what I have read, will not do much if anything extra.

My understanding differs slightly.

On a rev-up, which you have, you will produce better gains by getting the MREV2 with the spacer. In fact, on a rev-up engine the MREV2 is where the gains are produced. MD have conducted their own testing and determined that the spacer is not very effective at all on those engines without the MREV2.

of course they've done their own testing and determined that the spacer is not very effective without the MREV2... what's the point in owning a company?

Well lying to your customers is a great way to build trust and respect in your company.

Now check-out post #18 made by Motordyne in this thread. The analysis was:

Well I'm not looking to spend anything if there's no gains to be made. I've already got the 5/16 ISO spacer. I've just seen all kinds of comments on how the DE motors don't really benefit from the mrev but I haven't found anything else on plenums that do help. I'm just curious. Options? Im just gonna stick with the spacer unless any extra improvements can be made.
