Frost leather interior - need ideas

So I'm thinking of finally doing something with the interior. For some reason, I think more people hate the frost leather than like it. I personally think it's nice and wouldn't change it except for a few things. I've got the creased sides on the driver seat. No big deal. However, I wouldn't mind some personalized coloring or stitching to set off the interior.

Here's a few pics. Tell me what you think as far as ideas. I want to know if I should completely change the color of the shift boot to gray leather with black stitching, maybe do a carbon fiber cloth, do something with the head rests, etc.

You think people hate the frost interior? I love my frost interior  LOL! I've thought of doing replacement seat covers down the road in the frost color w/ burgundy (brickyard) stitching. I think if you were to do that you should continue w/ the blue theme inside as well (as in blue stitching....).... maybe replace the head rests in frost w/ a Z in blue or something....:dunno: I love the frost interior, I prefer light interiors in cars (and studies show that it's less fatiguing when on long drives)...

Yeah, I've read a few comments about how some people don't like the frost leather because they think it wears out too quickly. Seems they prefer black anyway. I've thought about the blue stitching. If I did that for the shift boot, I'd have to go with the light gray and blue stitching for it to stand out. :dunno:

I also like the idea of putting a big Z in the head rest.

I think overall everything looks fine. Maybe have some stitching done on the seats to add some contrast, and maybe put in some leather arm rests with the same stitching on the doors.

Overall I'd say the biggest sore thumb with the frost interior is how much the center console just doesn't seem to fit with the overall theme of everything else there. Maybe change your shift boot to match the seat color and stitching, and think about resurfacing and painting the center console? Just some suggestions.

I'm leaning to getting a 4 panel shift boot done in light gray with blue stitching. I also want to cover the door arm rests in leather, maybe with some kind of lettering down the middle.

So I'm contacting the local guy to see if he can do a frost gray with blue stitching. I might look into the headrest thing, too.

I think I agree with the others on the grey with blue sticthing especially if that is part of a theme.

Instead of stitching a Z into the headrest what about imprinting one?

Alas, the local guy doesn't have any leather in the lighter colors. Well, at least I have the next few months to find someone who can do this.

What about the leatherseats.com guys? They do great work  They could do the head rests and the shift boot for ya and then they would match

I thought about them, but I wanted to give the local guy a chance. Plus, I don't think leatherseats will customize the stitching on the gray leather since I want the blue.

Oh, and it's half the price locally.

Oh sure they'll do the stitching in any color you want, but I understand about supporting the local guy and him being cheaper.....

So maybe it's time I bump this thread and ask for more ideas. I'm toying with the idea of LEDs inside and under the dash, possibly by the foot rest area.

I still want to do something with the shift boot. Black is boring.

hmm...eh... Get some seats :)

#15 ·
Thought about that, but I'd rather be able to sit in all my options and pick out what I like. I don't want to shop for them online and then be disappointed.

You could do the 3M Di-Noc treatment to the center console and door handles but I think you'd probably find that tacky. Maybe you could look into getting the perforated leather inserts replaced with alcantara on the seats. Maybe I've been looking at too many S4/RS4s though...

 Have you now?

Slow and easy does the trick. I'll start with the shift boot as far as ideas go.

I really liked the lighting we had in the A6 in the foot wells. I can't remember but I think they dimmed out after x amount of time when the doors shut. Not sure I'd want the extra light in the cabin for night driving, I know my HU drives me nuts in the dark and I have to turn the screen off, not that I drive a lot at night anyhow. Dammed old age  One day I'd love to get some aftermarket seat covers, with some BY accents/inserts.

As much as I like my interior, I think it's time for some change. That's why I'm looking at all options. I would love to get illuminated door sills, but that's spendy for something that I'll only see when the door is open. I like the lighting idea, maybe one that stays on for 30 seconds or so. I also like the idea of accents or some kind of trim on the seats. If anyone has ideas and links, feel free to keep posting.

I was thinking of something like this:

Another thought, I put LED "puddle lights" on the bottom of the doors. Just simple stick on LED strips wired to the dome light. Sorry no pics though...not really interior either... :drink2::lol:

You could wire the footwell lights the same way.
