For those that question the lasting power of Zaino, me and my detailer mate subjected it to the ultimate test today

What started out as the idea of a quick swirl remove turned in to a 9 hour nightmare

After painting the whole bonnet due to a stone chip and letting it cure 2 weeks, we decided to give the car a light cut to remove the last remaining 10% of swirls 3 layers of Z5 didnt hide

We first spent a good 30mins taping up the car

We slapped some Farecla G10 on the buffer and went to work. The bonnet came up magic, no imperfections and no scratches even under the 20 neon white lights plastered on the walls and hanging from the ceiling

Have a look at the difference bw G10 and a freshly painted unprotected bonnet after only 2 weeks of driving

<img width='600' src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/scascone/123_2325.jpg[/img]

Then we moved to the front guard, that had been subjected to at least 6 coats of Zaino. We tried the G10 and it just smeared all over the place. Hmmmm the Zaino's on the paint, that's expected. We then prepsoled the panel, 3 times, G10'd and still the same smearing. Hmmmm the Zaino's still on the paint. We then upped the abbrassive to G6. Hmmmm the Zaino's still on the paint. The **** wouldnt come off. We then went up to G4 and still wouldnt come off. We ended up with G3 and it started coming off......phew

My mate scratching his head......."f$%k Sammy this stuff aint coming off"

So we G3'd the whole car, that didnt even touch the paint, just cut through and removed most of the Zaino. Then we went straight to G6 to swirl remove, and finished up with G10. A 9 hour job in total!!!

We couldnt believe how strong this stuff is. Now that's gotta offer some hefty protection against swirls, tar spots and pollutants. When we finished up, we tried Meg NXT on an old beater, and that came off by hand with G10 :rolf2:

Now tommorrow i have to add a couple layers of Z5 and Z2. The car looks better now though then when i had it Zaino'd, cant wait to see the results after some Z5. There isnt one swirl or scratch in the paint at all. Its perfect, a real work of art in the deepest richest black ive ever seen. Its just mind boggling, its just raw non metallic black, a real credit to the factory paint job :OMG:

lol Buzam, most are empty........but not for the reason u think

its for the home-made wog wine :lmfao:

thanks for the feedback guys, it was a labour of love, black paint is just so hard to finish off, even the buffer was putting in faint swirls that i then went over by hand with G10

i just wish the car had been delivered like this, not full of scratches where the dealer washed it with the same broom he used to washed customers' Patrols and Pulsars

lol, I'd like to hear what ratio of time you spend cleaning vs driving the car. So far it looks like cleaning is winning hands down ;-)

me, I clean it only when I'm really bored or the car is really dirty.

David....

Same as me.... hahaha.... I only clean it when it turns dirty instead of every once a week or so....

Sam... but it is a really good work though!!! Well done!

You guys should try out Zymol.... it is a lot better than Zaino IMHO... all natural products... unlike Zaino's chemical formulation... Zymol also reduces the number of hours you need to work on the car and the car turn out to be PERFECT too!

cheers,

richie

i disagree with Zymol vs Zaino

Zymol is a carnauba, and as such is flawed compared to a synthetic wax like Zaino, it doesnt last even a 1/4 as long, leaves a chalky residue, can stain black rubbers, and the clarity of relfection is nowhere near as sharp and detailed as Zaino. Carnauba is a hard brittle substance, and the silicone oils or paraffin they put in it to make it soft and spreadable are often low quality and can be harmful to ur paint overtime.

If i was going to use a carnauba, id go P21S. Zymol in the Gurureport of 40 odd waxes was rated very low down on the list. Zaino may take longer to layer, but it lasts alot longer, a carnauba will wash off after a month and need re-application, Zaino will not, so the time thing is relative

I did a comparison bw Zymol and Zaino

You can see how detailed the Zaino reflection is and how sharp the edges of the reflection are. Zymol looks blurry, the edges are rough. Its like comparing a 1.0megapixel pic to a 5.0 megapixel

Sam:

I never know about this... hahaha... never a professional on those cleaning agents.... I just use whats available and what people recommanded... after I used zaino ONCE.. just once... I stopped using that already... because it is just way too time consuming compare to other products that I tried before... but who knows I might get free later on using zaino again... and now.... where is my zaino professional package that I bought earlier.... :)

cheers,

richie

Well rich. If you want a quick one for Polishing. You can use either Crystal Guard or Meguilar NXT :) Don't have to use Zymol ;)

Forget Meguairs, theyre stuff is crap and full of fillers. You spend hours buffing ur car with their swirl remover, give it a thorough wash and the scratches come back :lmfao:

If your looking for an easy off the shelf product, go Autoglym

I stand by AutoGlym after using Meguairs for 4 years. However I have never tried Zaino so cannot comment

Simply stunning what you have done with that SB!

You've given me hope! Tonight starts my cutting/buffing process and then I'll be topping off with Zaino. Hopefully my results will come out as beautiful as yours!

You're very knowlegable about your products and the processes required too. Not something you see very often.

ooooo good luck dude, hope it turns out mickey

what products are using to cut? by hand or buffer? With the buffer use the speed the product recommends, too many guys are over cautious and just use slow rpms thinking its safe, but often the product may not work properly and wont haze evenly

Also if u need to use a medium or harsher cutter, always work backwards towards the lightest in the same range of products

The sun finally came out so i took some pics after applying the Zaino

The finish looks unreal, im really happy with it. All ill need to do now is maintain it with a layer of Z5 every 1-2 months if i notice any swirls from regular sponge washing

Dont u just love the valve caps [:D]

I Z2'd the rims as well, and noticed the brake dust doesnt stick to the rim anymore
