List the TWO worst, most useless or disliked mods you've done to the Z.

Be interesting to see what the money wasters are - save others the money.

For me -

Grounding wires - bloody total waste! Not worth the battery power to photo!

great idea frizilicious

i vote to make both these threads sticky

my worst mods:

the suitegraffix carbon fibre b-pillars. Bought these all excited, and have yet to fit them. I keep dry fitting them at least once a week, and still convinced it doesnt suit the car. But why? CF looks hot against black. I think its the color of the CF :banghead:

i wouldnt say this a worst mod, more pointless. I spent a whole week, no ****, painting the battery and fluid covers. I kept having problems with the paint sticking, so i sanded them back at least 3 times. I finally got the temp in the garage right with a plug in heater, but had too much condemsation making the paint dry cloudy, so after each coat i had to give them a light cut with Farecla G10. Finally got them looking good, cleared with the same condemsation problems, and then spent another 2 days spraying the silver lettering and wiping away the excess with thinners on a bag of cotton ear buds. Put them in the car and wow, they're still black, only glossy now

The SSR intake manifold is a waste of funds for forced induction. Stick with the Kinetix SSV, APS or Crawford.

The Tein Flex suspension may not be a total waste, but there are better options available unless you just have to have in cabin dampening control. It did not allevilate the bouncy ride and was stiffer than OE suspension even on the "full soft" #16 setting front & rear. Also a PITA to adjust the ride height. Opinions will differ on this mod but I was never satisfied with the setup.

Yeah, I can't really say any of the mods I have so far were a waste. Even the grounding kit.. it really did smooth out my rough idle.

The grounding kit helped the 5AT shift smoother (additional wire w/kit for 5AT)...so for little money I was o-k with that mod too.

I sincerely think it smoothed out the shifting too Kenny!!!! :shiftdrive:

Well, worst were the elegantwooddesigns CF door handle inserts.....because I tried to intall them over the winter and clean broke them in half :helpsmilie: Whoops. Let's see......nothing else that I am not happy with!!!!! Well right now the rustless lug nuts and the wheel locks are useless b/c I have yet to install them :rolf2: Sitting in the front hallway collecting dust, gotta get around to it one day...............

Hey Tpiace, your B pillar covers in CF don't look right? I got Varis Racing ones and they are perfect IMO. They were flexible as well, made it easier to fit.....Can you post pics of the color of the CF? Is it too grey or what? Thanks (oh and you cracked me up w/ "they are still black, but shiney" LOL

So far its the Unichip.

Thanks to the wonders of a modern, learning ECU its learnt around the programming of my piggyback (which is static and can't learn around the factory ECU).

As such, several hundred dollars and a few days after I get it tuned I'm making the same amount of power I did before installing it.

My tuner thinks they might have a resolution, so I might retract this comment at a later date.

Aside from that, my CAI hasn't made a noticable difference. But at AUD$10 its hardly a big loss.

That's an interesting comment and perspective, we at APS have tuned many VQ N/A engines and the power increase is always fairly consistent on a stock VQ engine, who tuned the engine for you?

PM me if you prefer.

jinxxy ive heard the varis ones are top notch, but i dont like the little badge

here's a pic of them, they are flexible too and quite thin, which makes me think they may not be real CF

the pic does look a little duller than in real life. Im planning on trying a smoked clear overlay on top to darken them a bit, but just havent got around to it. Or maybe i need the CF mirror bases as well for the look to work

As much as I like the look of my C-west front lip, it's the only thing I regret. After seeing other kits out there to make the front look more aggressive than stock, I know this will be the first major thing I replace. I'll probably go with either a full body kit or just a Nismo front fascia (1 piece if I remember correctly).

I also got rid of my aluminum airguide in favor of a CF one. That didn't turn out too well since I had to return the broken CF airguide.

yeah i agree the fitment is a little off, u can see the edge of the original b pillar trim from side angle

if they made replacement B pillar trim in real CF id buy it tommorrow

not overlay, but removing the original b pillar trim and clipped on a new CF one

why has no1 done it yet

Sam:

because making a injection mould out of the original B pillar (with the clips behind) + cover it with CF will be very expensive by the time it is finished... so I guess no manufacturer will really be doing that type of work though.. as for the overlay you showed, I reckon it is a very good design already...

The most useless mod that I have got will be the Apexi grounding kit.... and also probably will put in the intake tube as well... I will find out exactly what's it doing to the power loss tomorrow compare to the standard airbox intake... see how much I have gained...

Jason at performance nissan already stated that the integrated MAF sensor design (no matter what brand is it) always give less HP, I guess he has tested them all out... so boys... and apparently it is correct to my case and will see how it goes tomorrow again to confirm that...

cheers,

richie

Thought we'd be inundated with reports of underperforming/overrated stuff?

Everyone must be a lot happier with the aftermarket stuff than i anticipated?

HARRY - what about your colour - aren't you gunna post? Oh, hang-on, that was original. Sorry.
