I need some feedback on a VIN decoder I am working on. If and when the bugs are out of it and it becomes a useful too I'm going to give it to 350z-tech. The crew that have built this site up to what it is work very hard to create a useful site and having had this website as a source of information for my Z make me want to contribute something back.

Anyhoo. Those of us who have had to decode their VIN for one reason or another know that it can be somewhat painful, although Courtesy Nissan went a good way with their VIN decoding page. I took this page as a starting point with the intention of creating a web based VIN decoder. The current version is at:

http://www.etraxx.com/350z_vin.php

I have just finished re-writing the code so it works with both IE and FireFox. I haven't yet tested in other browsers and still need to clean up the code. I need the decoder tested. There ARE problems with it but I think with a little (or a lot) of tweeking, it can be useful. Again, since it is 'not ready for prime time' - I need assistance in testing it so I can give the finished code to Toykilla and his evil minions.

I appreciate any assistance. There is a Feedback link at the top of the page.

kick ass... It worked for me... a cool feature to add would be to have it spit out a build date if possible. and if not.. maybe date ranges.. I know i have seen build date ranges for our cars somewhere..

That should be possible .. I think. Making the assumpiton (with the usuall inability to be 100% certain with assumptions) that we can tie the Sequential numbers to dates it would be pretty easy to code. I'm guessing that each Plant would have a unique sequence. Since the Plant is pulled from the VIN ... again .. coding would be pretty straight forward.

sweet!! is this for our site only? i mean are you going to allow other sites to use this mod?

The only 'for certain' other site will by my own. Other then that, once it is ready for the public and I toss it to you guys then and let you decide. I mean .. would be kinda cool if the world's greatest Nissan VIN decoder (NVIN) was only available in certain sites . .ha.

Toykilla said that he thinks he saw where the 350Z production numbers were related to build date. If anyone knows where that information is located (my350? .. searched . .couldn't find anything) would appreciate a link.
