Ive got a little extra coin to spend and want to find out first hand if these Pulstar Plugs really make a difference as far as performance is concerned. Im new to the site and didnt see a tutorial on changing spark plugs. Am i just not seeing it? If there isn't a tutorial, anyone with info on changing the plugs?

approximate install time:
less than 45 min (longer if take optional steps)


tools:
ratchet with a long extension
10mm socket
5/8" or 16mm spark plug socket
torque wrench (both inches and feet would help)



Spark Plugs:

*Optional: If you do want to spend a little more time removing the plenum/intake duct to make the job easier, follow the directions as outlined in the Motordyne's installation guide.

If you don't mind all the crap that's in the way of the spark plugs, then read on from here.

1.) First locate the coil packs. These will have a harness attached to them. Unhooking these harnesses make the job easier. Use the 10mm sockets to unbolt the bolt on the coilpacks. It helps if you have a long extension. Some of the coilpacks are hard to get to, as there are things in the way. These bracket-like things (gold in color) can also be removed with the same 10mm socket, if need be.

Here's an example of what the coilpack looks like.


Here's a picture where you can see the harness (gray plastic pieces the coilpack is hooked to).


2.) Remove the coil packs - you can just pull them out once the bolt is off.

3.) Insert the spark plug socket (5/8" or 16mm) with a long extension in the hole the coilpack was in. It should be removed with little effort.



4.) Install the new spark plug and torque it down to 15-21 ft-lb (180-252 in-lb).

5.) Install the coil pack and torque the bolts down to 64-95 in-lb (5.33-7.2 ft-lb).

*If you removed the plenum and the intake duct, then follow the directions as outlined in the Motordyne's guide for re-installation.

Thorough instructions sir! Thank you very much! I just got a speeding ticket 66 in a 35, ouch!! So its gonna be a few weeks before i try those Pulstar plugs. Pulstar put a Z on a dyno with their plugs and the data revealed a gain of 10hp. Ive heard both arguments saying the technology will produce more hp with the plugs and those saying its another scam. With that said im still in the middle. So ill eat the 165 bucks to find out myself. Whatever. Maybe i could take the money to Pep Boys and get a sweet K&N blower :rolf2: That video is hilarious. But ill keep everyone up to date. Thanks again!!

you know, a couple of Z owners (not Pulstar) had tested these plugs and found them to either be total crap, did not live up to the claims, and in a couple cases they actually broke. i really would hate to see someone eat that much for some crap that wil not work, just thought i would give you a heads up

Hey thanks for the heads up Steve. My Z has 43K miles. Should i change the plugs at 50K? Is that too soon? And one other thing, when the time comes what plugs do you recommend? My only mod is a K&N short ram intake. Thanks for sharin the knowledge.
