I was told by Nissan that switching the wheels from side to side doesn't affect the TPM. I don't know about new wheels, though. That is of concern to me when I purchase new wheels. I had read some notes on this on 350zforum but don't remember the outcomes.

Here's a question. The dealer just swapped my gouged rims with those off a 2004. I have driven for about 35 miles and the sensors for the front are not registering. Just flashing --- for both fronts, backs reading fine. Is there a reset for the sensors after they have been changed? I have had 3 sets of fronts put on my car in the last 2 months and this is the first time that they won't register pressure.
Any clues?

Hey guys, Just wanted to share that the same thing happened to me last night. I took the day to wash and wax all the cars in my house with a friend of mine. After I washed the motor of my Z, I turned the car on and the tire pressure light turned on and the beep went off as well. I thought that I f***ed up something when I was rinsing the motor and I got scared for a moment. Then, I jumped in this forum and I saw what is the possible solution for this problem. I'm going to add some air to the tires now to see if it works. I really feel that this site helps people very well. I'll keep you posted.

Hey guys, Just wanted to mention that I put air in my tires and this fixed the problem. Finally I don't have any light turned on. Again, thanks very much for posting this problem up and keep up the good work!!

Are there any other solutions to this problem? I had a new pressure sensor installed on my front right tire (due to a flat - yeah!). Now my front right tire isn't registering at all... just " -- ". All my tires are over 35 psi... but the light just won't go off. The owners manual says to see a dealer and have them reset it. Any ideas on how to reset this on my own?

I have 35psi on a hand gauge. I have tried 3 different ones and they all say approxitmaly 35psi. My TPS says 31-32 psi. If I put 35 by the TPS I'm at close to 39psi. WTF Anyone have this problem? and can they be calibrated?

Quick related question to TPS without starting up a new thread.

I took my wheels off for the first time yesterday and I am curious on how the TPS sensor actually monitors the tire pressure. I mean, there are not wires hooking it up to the vehicle. I took the wheel off and nothing is connected. So how does the TPS sensor know what the tire pressure is? I guess I am missing something here.

Only guessing but I would imagine it is some type of short range RF communication.

On the Potenza 040's the minimum pressure is 35psi.

Max is like 53 or so.....

I just keep about 39-42 in there for city/highway, and it's fine.

I bought a digital tire pressure gauge from SEARS. It's the one that has a swivel head to it. It's fairly spot on, and the swivel head makes it so much easier to use.

On the inside door panel of every car, there is a sticker that tells you what the ideal pressure you should inflate your tires. That number is 35psi Cold.

The TPS is hooked up below the valve stem. When replacing wheels you must put back the TPS on the same side & same wheel location....so remember which wheel is which. If you don't then you have to take it into the dealer for re-programing.

You're absolutely right. I saw that too.

But, after seeing it on the tire as "minimum" I raised it a few.

I raised it only after I went to start my car in 15 degree weather. The tires stayed at 31psi and that insane squealing filled the car.

It's gotta be some kind of non-wired monitor but I haven't figured it out yet. Obviously it only works when the wheels are turning so that is a hint there. Anyone else have any ideas or know how this works? I'm curious.

EDIT. Found the Answer!

The sensor has a built-in transponder that broadcasts a radio signal to an external module. The module identifies the signal from each wheel and keeps an eye on pressure. If pressure drops below a predetermined threshold, the module turns on a light or displays a message to warn the driver.
