Tire pressure monitor

It was 17 degrees this morning. Once I got rolling, the "Low Tire Pressure" warning light came on, the PSI started flashing, and the little chime went off. When I checked the pressures, one of the tires was at 27 psi.

The tires heated up to about 32 psi each by the time I got to work, but the indicators never went off. No big deal, I thought it would be off the next time I started the car.

Nope, still on after work. I heated the tires up again, turned the car off, turned it back on, and the indicators are still on.

I have checked the owner's manual and the service manual and cannot find any information on how to turn them off. The owner's manual indicates the warning should stop once the pressure goes above 27 psi. That has not happened.

Does anyone know if you have to physically add air to the tires to get rid of the warning indicators?

yes you will have to add air to get the light to go off.. this happened to me.. very frustrating... i will look up the specs and get back with you.

You have to get your pressure back up to 35 psi before they'll turn off.

thanks speedy, i thought that is what it was but wanted to find some documentation stating 35psi..

im sure its in the service manual but i dont have time to look rightnow

As I was driving home today, watching my PSI indicator continue to blink, I noticed that the tire roar from the feathering was hitting at about 40 miles per hour, rather than the 24 to 26 I am used to.

Obviously tire pressure has a lot to do with tire wear, but has anyone noticed that higher or lower tire pressure helps or hurts the feathering problem?

So your tire pressure monitor works off a certain number, and not by a percentage of variance?

It's set to go off at 28 PSI and doesn't turn back off until you air the tires back up to 35. And if you go below 28 after you've already set off the warning light, the car annoyingly beeps at you for a few seconds, just as a friendly reminder.

I have found that if it is too **** cold to put air in your tires, you can avoid the annoying chime by cranking the **** out of the stereo. Warning: Do not attempt with a Bose system, as it only compounds the annoyance.

...PSI now flashing for three days.

Thanks Speedy, the PSI stopped flashing when I got the pressure to 35. I never got a reply to my question of the effect of pressure on the feathering, does anyone know if it matters?

Also, I know the manual recommends 35 psi, but what pressure do most of you run?

i cannot vouch for what causes feathering.. that is a much heated debate.. everyone seems to have their own explanation of the cause... there is no telling... i am just gonna wait and see if my new setup experiences feathering...

on another note!

my psi light comes on now if i cruise over 90mph for an extended period of time.... its weird because i dont have tire pressure sensors in my wheels any more...

anyone know the cause of this?

You Car is still looking for the TPS in the rims. is is just at that speed? I know that mine used to do After about 45 Min of driving. I had to get one of my TPS replace, the 10 year battery was dead, Go figure

What does the tire placard on the door say about norminal tire pressure? I'm sure the tire sidewall probably says 35 PSI COLD MAX., but that's a maximum for the tire itself, not that tire on the 350Z in particular.

Adding air to 35 PSI when it's that cold outside is going to lead to some very hard, over-inflated tires after 30-45 minutes of highway driving. If that's what it takes to clear the light then I'd say the sensors are sadly lacking in sensitivity or quality.

You do not have to add air to a tire that is 35 cold. You just have to get the pressure back up to 35 if it dips below 28. I increased the pressure to 32 cold (about 20 degrees outside). Once they heated up and hit 35, the indicator stopped blinking.

I have had this problem too. I had to fill up the air in my rear right tire three times this past month. San Francisco weather is very fickle.

My tire pressure light occasionally come on with altitude change...The problem is I have aftermarket wheels and NO tire pressure sensors in them!!

Just thought I'd post this, seeing that I'm still experiencing new and exciting virgin-like occurrances with the Z.

This morning, I decided enough was enough with keeping the Z in the garage because of bad weather. It was 40F out, so after warming it up, I'm on the road and something starts beeping at me loudly. My digital readout is blinking at me about PSI. Tire pressure was at 28 front and rear. I figured this was because my car had been sitting for so long. Anyway, after some driving the tires are warmed up and the pressure is now at 31 & 34, respectively. The light in the dash is still on, but no more beeps. I wonder what the cutoff point is for that light to go out. I was hoping that by the time I got to work, it would go off. Not that it is a big deal, but I thought I'd share.

I don't have the tire press. monitor, but I suppose that it will go back off when you get to 35psi on all 4 tires. Is this right guys?

Also, SmoothZ, wonder if that monitor will work w/ new size rims/tires? Interesting question....
