I went to the SEMA show last week and met up with a ton of people. I was talking with one magazine guy, and he told me about this guy in CA that does thermal coating.www.akarimotorsports.com. Just thinking about having my headers coated before I install them. Just wondering what you guy's thought. I will be tracking it on the regular, and on my old corvette i used header wrap, but this stuff is good to 2000 degrees in his black finish or 1500 in titanium finish. Anyone try this or used Akari Motorsports before.

I have been looking into getting JetHot Thermal Coatings. You should try to find out what company is going to do the coatings and then try to get a price comparison.

Anyone else thinking about geting thermal coatings on exterior engine parts?

Called today and talked with the owner Dan. He seemed to answer all of my questions. He has done a few 350z cars, but I didn't see any pictures on the website. Pretty informative website at that. I was short on time and just asked a few basic questions. He pays the return shipping. His turn-around time is 5 to 7 days once he has received the headers. They have been in buisness for a year. And on the testimonials someone said they could touch the exhaust manifold after being boosted hard no burn(safety first I say). Not sure if i would trust it with my skin...... But, he say he will beat any price as long as you show him proof of the ad..... when I get my new headers in they are going strate to him...

Okay, I just talked with Dan myself, for everyone reading this we are talknig about Akira Motorsports. I am going to use his initial price quote to start shopping around for prices. Also, considering that he is located in CA and I am in NJ, I might be able to find what I am looking for somewhere closer.

I am mostly interested in getting the exhaust manifold, turbo housing and downpipes coated.

For reference: Akira Motorsports

I was quoted around 350 total for both sides of the engine. This included both exhaust manifolds, both turbo housings and turbine impellers, and both downpipes out of the turbos.

What do you think of that price?

manifolds and turbos = $250

downpipes = $100

I had a set of headers coated by Jet Hot about 10 years ago and I can say that their coating, at least back then, was really incredible. Jet Hot will coat headers inside and out. The primaries seemed to almost cool enough to touch.....IIRC

I just got the quote back.

Jet Hot will cost around $330 for the 1300F finish. The 2000F finish will cost round $400.

You have to pay for shipping to Mississippi where they do all of teh coating as well as return shipping (back to NJ) that will cost $27.

Total cost around $450

Also, they say it only coats teh outside of the manifolds and this does not include coating the turbine impellers.

To answer someone's question about coating the impellers, it would be to reduce heat fatigue and provide longer life and increased strength at elevated temperatures.
