This article was lacking in several area: the first is that both jack stands and a jack need a level surface to be safely used. Use of either on a dirt or grassy surface requires careful planning and possible use of a pad (wooden or other) to actually support the weight of the vehicle. Position jack handles to the outside of the car to make it easy to raise or lower the jack saddle. Never get under a car until all four jack stands are properly placed and checked.

These are some of the basics of using jacks and jack stands. Hope it helps someone, somewhere, at some point in time.
