Hey all!

I bought a new Z. Someone cannibalized the original Bose head unit, but not the speakers.....

Anyone have good suggestions for a decent head unit as a replacement to be used with the speakers?

This is an 03 model, and I'm looking to spend less than 200. Thanks!!!!

Um, that's quite an ambitious request. Hard to get a (new) decent head unit for less than $200, and unless this bose system is different than other cars, I'm not sure a regular head unit will work with those speakers. Are the bose amps still there?

Your best bet is prolly looking for a used bose unit on ebay; if not, you might have to go for speakers, too...

Forgive me for my ignorance, but how do I check for the amps? I tried taking off the center console part, but got frustrated when I couldn't. It does look like the sub had been taken out, as I have audio cables behind my drivers' side seat connected to nothing, and a red wire that is also connected to nothing. My driver's side speaker does not work, either. Do you have any idea what this means? Once again, I'm a newbie when it comes to this stuff, so sorry for the dumb question. Anyone care to help out?

Thanks

PS....how DO I get the center console parts off to get into the speakers behind the seats?

is there a headunit in it now? how is it hooked up. Not sure how to use the bose amps with an aftermarket unit, never seen it done.

As for a nice. inexpensive headunit, I just got this on ebay, refurbished for 160. I had last years model, but it had a chrome face, the new one is black. Clarion dxz745mp plays am/fm/cd/mp3 with lots of other optional inputs like sat, tv, dvd, etc. you have a lot of colors that you can make the face be.

to get to the rear speakers:
1.grasp the shifter console, behind the shifter and lift up, that part will pop up. disconnect the white ribbon cable.
2. remove 5 screws in center console, 2 at the leading edge, 1 under the ashtray, and 2 on either side, behind the seats. You can then take the console out (2 wire connectors ((maybe 1)) under the console that have to be disconnected though) just slide it up and over the part you removed in 1., so you dont have to take the shift knob off.
3. pop the side rocker panel trim off.
4. pop the side trim by the rear windows off on each side also.
5. pop off the cover from the sub compartment.
6. undo the screws holding the glove box cover on.
7. pop the panel running the width of the car off behind the seats (the one the glove box is attached too.
8. remove the storage box(es, if you don't have nav), open the doors, and pull them out
9. thre is a front and back side to that hump that covers the rear speaker area. just pop it off, and thats all there is too it :D
