I was going south on I-75 between Gainesville and Tampa and found a new (paper tag) GT that wanted to run.

It was real close. Who ever started in front, stayed in front. We each "won" a couple of runs but I was able to pull on him slightly each time. (I think the GT will do better when it's broke-in.)

I, and my girlfriend, both noticed something odd about the Stang on two of the runs. His back end began to "lift" over 140. The first time seemed to catch him by surprise and looked quite scary.

Anyone else heard of this issue with the new GT's?

did he have someone in the car?
I know girlfriends usually don't add that much weight but do you think you'll do better alone?

He was alone but my girlfriend only weighs 98 lbs.
The cars seem evenly matched with a slight advantage to the Z. (in this case)

Hrmmm, resurection* sorry

The 05 GT feels like a porker. I used to sell them, blue oval certified rep (well, former). Anyways, No, handling is not their strong point, but they do FEEL more "solid" than the older ones (04 or older).

I am suprised you pulled him, but have heard that the Z's can take them from a roll. I did see 2 paper plate cars running at the strip, both A5, both 1 day old. 05 GT and 05 350Z. The GT pulled the Z every time in the 1/8 (they only ran 1/8) but both cars were piss slow and so I dont care too much about that comparison (GT trapped 75-77 and the Z 72-73, both well below their true capability imho.)

I have raced a couple of Z's, but never an 05+ GT, I live vicariously through you : ) Good kill!

I've heard of the issue.

I haven't gotten up to that before with me driving, and probably never will. (I don't trust myself that much)

Personally, I don't like going over 80 or 90; the hood flutters. (I think someone said adjust the bumper stops will help, but I figure if i'm going to try to fix it, i'll just get hood pins)

BTW, I would just like to say that this new generation handles very, very well. I've driven the 350Z before, and the 350Z definitely has an advantage, but honestly, it isn't much. With a good driver in each, it would be very close in almost any kind of race.

I've had my 99 Cobra to the limit (152 mph) and it felt smooth the whole way there. I have a Saleen spoiler on the back so maybe that helped with downward force. I'm in a Mustang club as well and will ask people if they notice their asses lifting above 140.
