Its your flywheel. Its loud because its lightweight (relatively). Totally normal, you wont hear it if you are higher in the revs, but you will hear it if you are around 1000rpm.
Rough mechanical noises from 6MT
I occasionally hear rough mechanical noises (like a a rattle) at low rpm in 2 and 3rd gear. It can only be heard from the outside i.e. when the windows are down and there is something alongside the car like a barrier to deflect the noise. Otherwise its not audible inside the car. I don't think this is a big problem but does anyone else notice this?

That's normal and has something to do with your stick shift connecting within your tranny. For the life of me, I can't remember right now what it's called, but it has to do with a bushing or balancer or something. Someone help me out! :helpsmilie:
