I am having problems with my Transmission. Would it be ok to have it rebuilt? Money is an issue and Nissan wants 2,200 for a new one. I can have it rebuilt for half that. What do you guys think I should do?

What exactly is wrong with it? Were the specific about the problems? I would rebuild it with some aftermarket parts.

Grinding going into 3rd gear unless I shift very slow. Also some other wierd noises. Not sure from where. I feel like I have loss of power. Car has 100,000 miles on it.

Just buy a new clutch plate and flywheel, along with some good synthetic tranny fluid. If you can do it yourself, more power to you. Otherwise, it will cost you a lot for labor.

I've had my gearbox pulled down recently since I broke 3rd, and I've got some bad news on that front.

The Nissan service manual for the 350Z gearbox says that anything pressed out of the gearset has to be replaced with new items. That means any cog you press out needs to be replaced, plus all the synchros, plus everything else holding it together.

If you replace all your synchros, you'd basically be replacing your entire gearbox anyway. You could choose not to replace used parts as per the service manual, but Nissan would have put that in the manual for a reason and the cost of failure on a dead box could be quite high.

I'm not sure if replacing your clutch is going to fix your shifting issues (if its only 3rd gear causing it), but doing your clutch is a lot cheaper than doing your 'box. The random noises could be clutch noises instead.

Well, I pick it up tomorrow! Jwt cluth and flywheel and they rebuilt my tranny. Replaced syncros and whatever else. I will let you guys know how it turns out. I also treated myself to some new leather seats while it was in the shop for the other work. :shiftdrive:

Well...Everything seems great now. The only thing is that it seems harded to put it in 6th than any other gear. I can tell a big difference in 1st and 2nd when I get on it. It feels like it red lines 1st and 2nd much faster now, and no grinding.

uprade your tranny, buy a 2006 + CD OO9
U can't go wrong that way, and keep the one you have now as a spare.
thats what i would do !

How much did the trans rebuild cost you?
