Rebuildable 350Z Help

I love the 350Z and want to get one really bad however I am only 17 so obviously I can't afford a new Z and used Zs are still pretty expensive. It seems like my only option is to get a rebuilt or rebuildable one. I found this one on eBay and was wondering if I could get some opinions and rough estimates from you guys. I have never gotten into an accident so I have no idea what repair costs would be. I sent a few e-mails to the guy that owns the Z above and he said it needed the following; bumper, hood, hood hinge and latch, replace fender, head lights, replace the wire connector for fan, replace apolster the driver seat, airbags replaced, replace the washer fluid container, replace signal and wiper controller (he has one new in box just needs to be installed, and it needs the side skirts installed. Is this car a good deal? Obviously I would go and look at in person and bring it to a mechanic to check everything out, but if it checks out is it worth it?

Thanks Alot

Are you going to be doing the work yourself or paying someone else to do it? How much are you willing to spend on parts? I imagine that by the time you buy all of those parts and paint anything that needs to be painted you could buy this same trim used.

And personally, I'd never buy a salvaged car that's only been on the market two years
First off I would have to get someone to do the repairs for me, I do know someone who owns a auto body shop so I probally get a discount on labor. I am currently driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 65,000 miles that I probally could get around 12,500 for and I have around 3,500 in savings that I am willing to spend. So that would give me around 16,000 to spend. If I could get the car for 11,500 that would leave me with 4,500 for parts.

A rebuildable Z seemed like a good idea at first but the more I look into it, it seems like it would be much smarter to just wait a summer or two to get a used one.
Yes, waiting is a much better idea. For a car to be given a salvage title, it basically needs to cost more to fix the car than it's worth. I think you're looking at more than $4500 in repair work. And you're only 17, you have your whole life to drive a Z, waiting a year or two won't be all that big a deal in the long run
Don't buy it now.

My Z got hit in the driver's side and it cost close to $6000 just to replace the door and get a new rear quarter panel put on and painted.

The body parts for this car are extremely ridiculously priced and buying a salvaged car means that it should have been totalled.

I bought my Z used with only 7,500 miles on it for $26k. I'm sure you can find one for closer to your price range, but it's going to have a few miles on it.

Waiting a couple of years will bring the price down and make it a lot easier to obtain. You won't regret buying one and not having to deal with the hassle.

Oh yeh, and :welcome: to the site. Post away, and hopefully we can answer all your questions for you.

Oh yeh, and it doesn't come with headlights either. I've seen those go for $800 used :OMG:
parts are extremly expensive. there's no way you can get all the required parts for 4500. best thing to do is to save your money. don't be impatient and dig a hole for yourself. there's still a lot of time to own a Z.

:welcome:
buy a used one.. dont get that one off ebay.. you will spend more than it will cost to get a used one, and still no guarantee there wont be problems later...
