I've had mine for two years already and it has saved me countless times. Of course any other radar owners will tell you that as well. What I do like about V1 is the fat that it has the directional arrows that tell you where the radar is coming from.

I have the Valentine 1 and absolutely love it. I can get a detection on a straight road up to 4 or so miles. Best part of the V1 is its directional arrows which tell you what way the signal is coming from. My unit has gotten me out of countless tickets. The V1 and Escort Passport 8500 will both be neck and neck in quality and function but what sets the V1 apart for me is the directional arrows. You never know if the signal you are getting is in the front, back or side of you with other detectors. For me its definately worth the extra $100. Another great thing with the V1 is the concealed display. You can drive around without having that big thing smack in the middle of your windshield. You put the detector in the back of your vehicle as shown and the concealed display is put in front of you.

Heh pictures and everythin .... thats good to know but dude you dont have to conceal it or anythin just carry an envelope in yer glove box and if you ever need to jus put the detector in the envelope and seal it.... the cop cant open a sealed envelope and if he does and books you for it... youl be off the hook cuz itl neva hold up in court.... *ITS A FEDERAL OFFENSE TO OPEN SOMEONE ELSES MAIL* for anyone.... cops are no exception

Its just nice not to have a big radar detector in your front window. I know your being a smart a$$ about it anyway but having a concealed display is a very nice option, especially in some states such as virginia. You asked a question about whats a good radar detector so I gave you my opinion, some pictures, and some of its options. Was just tryin to help. I dont think that just putting something in an envelope will cause a cop not to be able to open it.

its not illegal in new orleans, but having a 450 dollar radar detector sitting in plain view of anyone walking near your parked car is like putting a wallet full of cash on the seat with it open displaying its contents. It is bound to get stollen. Also, the fact that you dont have to look at this huge detector sitting on your dash while you are driving is another reason to get the concealed display.

Oh and your method wont work. As long as the officer has probably cause he can open/search ANYTHING he wants to. If you were to move contents around while being pulled over and shove them into an envelope he will open it up, mark my words. That is like saying carry weed on you but put it in an envelope, if a cop finds it hurry and seal it and he cant open it. Give me a f---ing break.
Genius? No

Canada is a whole other world than america then. Just because you put something in an envelope doesnt protect you from anything, just makes you more open to a search due to probable cause.
