nice install!!! Did you wire that directly from the battery? (Sorry if that was a dumb question. I don't know much about cars unfortunately...I sure wanna learn though to cut down on mod install costs) What kind of wire is that?

Thanks Mikey! Actually I ordered a hard wire kit from the same place I ordered the detector. There is a splice clamp provided with the kit so I spliced into my stereo power wire. There are several ways you could actually hook up the kit but I thouhgt that would be the easiest. The wire you see hanging out is actually telephone wire which is what the detector uses. The install took me a couple of hours which is a little longer than probably should take but I was being extra careful.

Haha beter safe than sorry right? Sounds awesome but I'm not sure I would want to try it. I am definetly not a whiz when it comes to the electronics.

Yeah, I don't know what I would do if I fried something.
Although I've had enough experience with electronics since I used to do installs at a stereo shop and also from a lot of trial and error. Those aren't the best learning experiences.
The one difficult part if you were to wire to the stock stereo is finding the hot wire. Unless you have schematics for the wiring you would have to use a meter to test the wires. Other than that as long as you had some detailed console removal instructions and such you could probably do it.

The HiFi buys I live near has the 8500 X50 (blue display) it is listed at 339.99, but the guy there will cut me a deal to 315 or 310. Also the installer will hardwire the detector for 50$.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I just hope they are quality installers. Make sure you can trust they'll do a good job.

I would say that probably qualifies. You should be OK with that. Are you for sure getting the detector or still thinking about it?

gotta say after using the X50 during my trip it saved me bigtime, even with those Georgia State boys using the burst mode with laser. that is a very unforgettable sound.

I agree Steve, I've had a few times that I would have been dead meat if not for my radar. The laser alarm has actually scared me a time or two when it went off.

Now the bad note, had my radar for 8 months and it just quit on me. No blinky lights, no boot up sequence, nothing. I called Escort and explained the scenarios leading up to the no worky and they gave me a return number and told me to send it back. It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't heard nothing back from them. They said they would check to see if it could be repaired, and if not they would send me a new one. I'm hoping for the new one.
Other than that, it's awesome....or it was awesome

Heres some pics of my V1 hard wired install. I love this radar detector and highly recommend it. The directional arrows are a very good feature and are very useful.

I haven't used a detector for many years, but now it seems I am the rabbit in almost every pack I get into.

Has anyone tried the 8500 w/ZR3 diffuser? Laser is very popular in GA, especially in ATL. I have a pic here of a mount that is reasonalbly priced ($20) and very popular. I plan on wiring direct to the mirror power source.

Nice Dave079, that's the other route I'm considering.  How did you push the wire through the headliner to the reciever?

I like that alot.

You just kinda push it and it will go in. Very easy to do and a fairly easy install. Took about 45 minutes or so. Just have to wire it into the back of the power adapter outlet next to the rear glove compartment.

And yeah Dirn you definately have to get this thing. Its great!

Note: to anyone with a radar detector.

If u rely on the sound to warn u of cops don't turn ur music up too loud when ur speeding, or like me u will end up with a speeding ticket.
