You have probably opened up the whole Escort/Passport vs. Valentine debate (for which I no opinion). But I used the 8500 in my Tahoe, and was extremely pleased with it.

I went with the Solo in my Z, because I wanted cordless. Again, very happy with the performance. It is hard to go wrong with Escort.

I love my V-1. It is great to know where and how many are around. I have heard nothing but good things about the 8500 as well.

yea it was a hard choice to go for me!!

same here, i may just go with the 8500 and get one of the rearview mirror mounts i saw on the "other site"

Toykilla did the hardwire install on mine, it sits right up top near the visor and starts as soon as the car does!!

v1 is king. I would not trade mine for 10 passports.
For your sake, do your research well before spending the money. Make sure and read some V1 testamonials.

Anyone have any thoughts about the 8500 X50? I was close to buying the 8500 a few months ago and waited since Escort was to release the X50, which apparently has better detection/range with fewer false readings.

Nobody locally seems to have this and I really don't feel like waiting much longer to get one. I was well over 100mph yesterday on I495 and saw a trooper at the last second and knew immediately he got me. Fortunately I was right at my exit so I pulled off and was able to get away this time, but next time I probably won't be so lucky.

Presently, I have no radar at all and figure some type of detection is better than none at all.

I have no experience w/ the Passport but I would be interested too. Currently I use the Bel-Vector 985 and it's good, but a PITA too. Driving to and from the meets this past weekend, it really really annoyed me. Every time I get near one of those speed detecting "your speed is" signs, the thing goes off for like a mile and a half before that. Bridges, it goes off b/c of the local stuff beneath it. But I can't turn off the X-band and the K-band alarms b/c the cops here still use thoses frequencies. So I just hang back and hope it is a false alarm. I'd love to get one of those scrambler things....let us know what you find...

Yeah, the scramblers sound kinda interesting but I don't know too much about them. Plus, I think several states are looking to ban the use of scramblers. They cost serious $$$ too.

active scramblers are illegal... lazer jammers are legal.. (at least in texas)

I would guess the X50 is simply an upgrade to the 8500.. I have been saved a ton by the 8500 and will never again drive without one. But it seems logical that the new version would be better? But what is the price differnce ?

I believe the X50 is $299 (same as the 8500) in red. The blue display option is $340. Those who had purchased the 8500 can upgrade their units for a price by summer, but no one seems to know how much that will cost. Problem is, no dealer has the X50 even though it is out right now.

Have you checked the escort website? They are normally pretty good with quick ship and often throw the shipping in for free. I have the cordless version. I like it, but have trouble hearing it when the tunes are cranked.

I read plenty of reviews between the V-1 and the 8500 since those were the two I was looking at. From what everyone says they are very similar in function but the V-1 has arrows pointing to which direction the signal is coming from. Since $100+ more for arrows didn't seem to be worth it to me I went with the 8500 X-50 which is sitting at UPS as I speak. I will have it by Friday and let you know the following week how well it worked. I would say from most of the reports that the 8500 is top of the line. Unless you go with the k-40.

I just received my direct wire smart cord for my 8500 X-50 detector and wanted to wire into the lighter plug but wasn't sure where they routed the wiring from the lighter plug to the fuse box. I've got the service manual for my car but wasn't sure what they actually call the lighter plug. I've searched under several areas in the manual but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know off hand?
