My dad drove my car and forgot to push down when shifting into reverse, the car went into reverse like normal, however today I tried to get it into reverse and was locked out. I read the thread, pulled the pieces off and came to find that the shift lockout tab that sticks out was on the left side and not the right, I tried twisting it and there's no movement. Do I need to do anything specific, in order to flip it around?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'd be lying if I said I knew what I was doing lol.

This is not a problem I've had myself. Don't remove the bolts, just try to free it up a bit and lubricate it a bit. You may still need to get a specialist to examine the mechanism, but you don't want to damage it further.

For anyone wondering about this issue, I got it all fixed. Just had to take the plate with the three triangle bolts off, then jack the car up find the shifter assembly underneath, where you will find a rubber cover and pull it down which will expose a bolt and all you have to do is loosen that all the way, pull it out, then pull the whole shifter out from the interior. At this point all I did was rotate the plastic piece around the ball in the assembly, then align it, put the bolt back in underneath, which is a little tricky because you have to balance a fork between the shifter and then put the bolt through, after that just tighten everything down and you should be good to go. This is the same process for installing a short shifter.
