I am looking to buy a new plenum and was wondering your thoughts were on them.
1. What brand did you go with?
2. Do you notice the HP difference?
3. Do you lose noticeable low end torque?,
Or was it a waste of money?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am actually thinking of getting mine ported and polished instead of going after-market. There's a local speed shop that specializes in that kind of stuff. I have not heard good things about Kinetix, but that could be isolated incidents (i.e. nitrous, too much boost, etc). I thought Crawford does plenums, but they look awful, imo.

I really like the polished look in the engine bay. Just my 2 cents.

1) Crawford, as shown above
2) Above 5500rpm, yes
3) No, and no, it wasn't a waste of money.

1) there are 2 new plenums coming to market soon: APS and Unlimited Tuning. Before I bought, I would wait until these show up and then choose. I think both will be superior to the current ones available.

2) If you plan on FI, the NO to Kinetix.

3) Crawford loses your pretty engine cover and makes the engine look naked.

Hugo I got my Kinetix v4 on a couple weeks ago and have put over 1000 miles on it so far. None of the v4's have given problems so far and have been out for about 3 months now. I have noticed a definate gain in pull in the higher rpm range and its sounds great. I dont see any loss in low end torque.
Crawford IMO is ugly as sin and you have to trade in your stock plenum if you want your $200 core charge back. I would defiantely want to keep my stock one just in case warranty work is needed. Also you have to buy their strut bar b/c the factory one wont fit. So you lose your engine cover and strut bar. So add it up $400 for plenum + $200 to keep stock plenum + $150 for their strut bar + shipping = almost $800 for a plenum. Kinetix is only $399 + shipping which came out to $418 for me total.

P.S.- No offense John to yours

Heres a pic of mine.

I'm curious to see the results of the new plenums coming on the market.

I would never buy Kinetix based on their track record, as I don't want to be stranded somewhere with a cracked plenum. Plus I really don't like the brand name moulded into the plenum... I suppose I prefer something non-descript. The STB is a valid concern though, as it does cost extra money. I really never cared about the core, as by the time I sell the car, I'll just swap with somebody or leave it on the car.

I know Altered Atmosphere is developing something, but they have a shady track record (at least in my dealings with them).

Thanks for the info guys. I'm tring to decide between the Hi flo cats, the plenum, and crank pulley. I might even wait until the winter time and get all 3. My car gets parked in 3 months anyway.

if you think that the current Crawford Plenum is ugly , you should check out their first version..

1. What brand did you go with?
- Crawford
2. Do you notice the HP difference?
- not really noticable , feels like the car pulls stronger after 4K rpms
3. Do you lose noticeable low end torque?,
- nope
Or was it a waste of money?
- definetly not , rather pay more money , than check everyday for cracks...

If I were you Hugo , I would wait at least for the APS to come out...

AAAAAAUUUUGGGGH! That crawford plenum is simply HAWRible....

Jeez, those welds look like my pomeranians ****, in silver. That strut/sway bar is doofy looking. What a horrible thing to do to the z's nice engine bay. I would ship that stuff back with a demand for my old stuff back. I dont care HOW MUCH HP is gained. Unless it is over 500 HP, screw it....

Check out this pix of my engine compared to the butcher Crawford. Did they SEE their product before marketing it?

Yessir. Free is definitely good!

I just didn't like how the sway bar is relocated. That looks like it may not have the same support that it is supposed to....

These emoticons are pretty cool....this site has a ton of them!
