Sorry for this extremely newbie question, but what is the oil change interval for a manual Touring 350z?

The user guide did not explicitly list one!!!

The service manual says 3750 but I go with 3000 or every 3 months. The service dept at Nissan puts those stickers telling when your next oil change should be, and they go by the 3K/3mo rule too.

Since Z baby just had an oil change b4 our accident, and she has been sitting for 5 weeks, do you think I should have them change the oil b4 getting back on the road????
i religiously do it every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. always have, always will
Gotta do it every 3000 miles with full synth. mobil 1.
Every 3-4K when using Dino Oil, Every 4-5K with Synthetic Oils. With quality synthetic oil, we can prob extend oil change interval to every 5-8K miles, but the OEM filter sucks(small size, less filtration media). Most european cars have gone to 1 yr, 10K OCI.
Have you thought about using the OEM long filter?
Why 3 months? I change mine between 3000 and 3750, but I never follow the 3 month rule. I don't even get close to 1000 miles a month on my Z. Why do they have a 3 month rule?

+1...that's what I use. Change oil & filter every 3K miles.

Eh, maybe. But since I drive my Z regularly w/o high mileage, it still seems odd that they have that kind of interval. In fact, this is the first time I've changed my oil after Zdayz...that's how many miles I've put on her since then.
Interesting thread!

I just bought 2 cases of Amsoil for wifey's car and mine. The carton says 25,000 miles between changes.

I used to change our oil at 3-3500 miles (regular oil). I bought the synthetic to be able to extend that. I've been planning on changing the syn oil at 10k (as opposed to the 7500 recommended by most manufacturers).

Why would anyone feel they need to change syn oil at 3-6k miles?
Quite interesting to read about your oil change info. I'm in the UK and our changes are every 9000 miles! Mine is due in a couple of weeks. I will probably use Motul 300V 5W40 engine oil.

Nissan in Europe will not introduce the automatic tiptronic :banghead: so I have had to get an import from Japan instead. Does anyone know if there is a service manual (in English not Japanese!) I can download to find out the intervals for the Engine/Gearbox/Transmission oil changes.

Saxtoo, (UK).

:newbie: Hi,

This is my first post in this forum (been in it for a while just on the side line). Anyway, the reason for the 3 month rule is because on regualr dyno oil you inevitably get some sulfur with it. Sulfur also come in with the fuel. When you have combustion/high temps in the engine you generate acids (sulfuric mostly from the sulfur impurities and the water generated during combustion). Suppose that you run your car just 1000 miles in one month and keep it (your car) enclosed for another 5 months, you are allowing for those acids to start eating away the cylinder walls and the bearings (mostly small pitting) that can promote premature wear. Now, if you change the oil and don't run the engine at all, you can go longer between changes, but most people, at least I do, run the engine even during the winter just to circulate the oil. This is also another reason why you can go longer with synthetic oils:less sulfur.
Anyway, I have a 2004 black 350z enthusiast and only use mobil1 every 3500 miles with a long purolator filter. Just past the 14k mile mark. I love my Z.

Hope this helps

David

Aloha David,
Welcome to the site! Question, do you have the filter number for the long Purolator you're using?

A Hui Hou

PaulO

ps. the part number for the OEM long filter is 15208-9E000.
Enlighten me. If you plan on changing oil at 3k, why use synthetic??
