I'm PISSED. I placed an order for a Quaife & 3.9 gears from a vendor that came highly recommended by many on this forum. I placed my order on or around 2/8, at that time the vendor told me the gears were not in stock but was to receive a shipment by that weekend or early the next week. So I placed my order expecting to have them shipped out the next week. I patiently waited because I realize that the gears are popular and sometimes hard to get, know problem.

I would call or e-mail to get updates on delivery from time to time. I was told for over three weeks that they were due in any day, sometimes he even specified a date they were to be in. No such luck. Earlier this week I finally just told them to drop the order on the gears I was tired of waiting. Of course I think they weren't happy about that. I placed an order with BJ with Vivid Racing, he was very helpful and I had my gears two days later. Mind you I paid extra to have him ship them 2 day express because I had an appointment to get this all installed on Monday. I also contacted the previous vendor to ship my Quaife out two day air so I would have every thing here so I could take my car in on Monday.

Well guess what, no LSD. I e-mailed and found out that it is being shipped from Quaife and he can't get me a tracking # till Monday. WTF, I paid for this stuff a month ago, if it was going to be shipped straight for Quaife why wasn't it shipped a month ago. I thought he would just ship it and the gears out at the same time from his warehouse. I now have to cancel my install and reschedule.

My plan was to have the gears installed on Monday and possibly head to TX to get my car tuned late next week. I was making plans to take off work yada yada yada. So this has really screws thing up for me and I'm not happy.

I'm not going to say who this vendor is, because maybe this is an isolated case. But I just had to vent. So am I being unreasonable or am I getting the shaft? Should I be the one who has to keep calling to find out whats going on? :banghead:

hate to say, but that is how it goes sometimes. One place can have them in stock and ship immediately, others have to be at the mercy of being out of an item and wait for it to come in. Since the vendor was waiting for his order to come in, sounds like thier hands were pretty much tied. at least they had great contact with you and updated you on the situation. some shady vendors would just blow you off. and yeah, they may be a bit mad about dropping the order, but if they are a good vendor/business the reasoning behind that would be because they lost a sale and possibly a customer in the future. since i have no way to know which vendor this is this is just pure speculation on how i would feel if i was a vendor in this situation.

I can understand the delay with the gears if the vendor was being fed a bunch of BS by his supplier, but with the diff being drop-shipped from Quaife, that part of the order should have been put through immediately. I can't think of any reason to sit on that part of the order until the gears come in.

I can see your frustration and feel for ya. However, on a big project like the one you described, I would have to ensure that all the parts were in my hands before I made appts to get stuff done to the car. Just my 2 cents. I usually have bad luck, so when I get parts, I usually wait a while before I install them.

imo, asking if it's okay to feel what you're feeling is like asking if it's too hot or too cold. you had expectations from the vendor that weren't met. that would tick anyone off. the real question seems to be are you appropriately ticked off. i can only offer what in your experience would have also ticked me off. the gear issue seems to be out of the vendor's control but certainly the Quaife delay wasn't. i'd have given slack with regard to the 3.9 gears but i'd have raised heck about the Quaife order not going in when it should have. but understand, you are dealing with real people who aren't real dealers.

the response to my concerns would be the most important issue for me.

good luck. if you need help pm me.

I understand your point Dave, the rub is I was told I'd have them in time, and I also ask this vendor to please keep me informed so I could move the install back if I needed to. He could have told me he couldn't get me my parts by Friday so I could have called in and moved my appointment back. But he didn't do that, and I was getting the feeling he was getting upset with me when I would inquire about the shipment. You know I'd never have e-mailed or called had he just sent me an occastional update.

I've been self employed for twenty years, and I can tell you the quickest way to piss off a client is to tell them something, not deliver and not communicate. Most people are very reasonable when you take the time to keep them informed about a situation. I go way out of my way to prevent misunderstanding, but you have to communicate.

I'm not naming names because I'm sure this vendor meant well and sometimes **** happens, but I think it's important to speak out so one can gain perspective of what it's like for the customer. There for next time he might find a better way of dealing with a similar situation.

I was almost in the same situation. I called the shop & had them order my Quaife LSD, and they called back and said it was on nationwide back order. So after a recomendation from here, i called Z1 and they had 2, so I promptly called my installer & they got it that night. I was pretty lucky.
