I just ordered an Eclipse AVX2404 I already have the factory NAV so I got the model less NAV. I am going to have it installed on Monday. They are also going to make a custom fiberglass box to fit in the factory sub location behind the driver seat.

I am going to use a JL 250/1 and either a JL 10 or 12

Will a 12" JL fit or do I have to go with a 10" due to air space? The guy at the shop says it may or may not be enough space for a 12" and if I put one there it might not sound as good a 10"

Does anyone know if a 10 or 12 is better for that location. I like the stealth box but need to keep the space for my laptop etc...

Any insight is appreciated.

Well that depends....

The reason I say that is because if you are getting lets say a 12" JLW6 dual voice coil, the necessary cubic volume is relatively small and it should be okay to fit in the bose sub location. But you have to make sure that you measure to see if the magnet will have sufficient clearance room behind it when it is traveling up and down. Considering that, then you should be okay.

Another thing, the guy at your shop is correct, whenever you are building a sub box, having the correct cubic volume according to the speaker's specs is the key to it sounding awesome. If you get a rough measurement of the cubic volume that you are going to have when a box is built in that enclosure, then you will be able to make an educated decision on which speaker is going to work better for you. It might end up being the 10" because it requires less cubic volume than a 12". Don't worry, some 10" speakers can pound harder than some 12", it is all about how well the speaker and sub box is built.

I would measure out the cubic volume of the enclosure, then get an idea of the cubic volume of a sub box(keep in mind thickness of the walls, the space that will be occupied by the speaker itself, etc.) that can fit in there and then reference the JL audio website to see what will work best for you. Good luck!
