March `05 R+T: Best All-round Sportscar.

Although our Z finished 8th overall out of 9 cars, A 35th Anniv. was used, I think it`s still pretty cool that it was in the running with cars like the Viper, Corvette, and Porsche Carrera S.
I was disappointed it finished behind the S2000 though, which was 5th.

Yeah, I didn't think it was really a fair competition. I can see comparing the Z to a Vette or Boxster S 1-on-1. But to throw a $30k car into the mix with a stack of $60k or $80k cars seems odd.

But I was really surprised that the S2K finished so far ahead of the Z. I've always thought the S2K was way overpriced.
Nice post......my peacock feathers are in full bloom right now...:)

Hard to believe that a 4 banging, no torque, can't spin my own two wheels on my own, and i come stock with 16" rims up until last year was ahead of the Z's gut wrenching 274 lb/ft or torque, not too mention heart pounding 287 horsies and head turning good looks. Whomever wrote that article or is performing these road tests is obviously mentally declined and a no-talent ass clown who likes v-tec and thinks it's cool. See what I mean below:

(CLICK IT, UNLESS YOU LIKE V-TEC)

The Z is #1
man there is alot of bashing on certain cars on certain forums haha

but to the point now i guess... who said the S2000 can't spin the tires? cause they definately do. i was even in 1st gear rolling stepped on it and the car started to slide out... but the S2000 interior most certainly seems just thrown together with little work involved and i would also say the S2000 is overpriced, but will not say the S2000 is a bad car...

and why is it people don't like VTEC? it's actually a really good design that everyone bashes on cause they usually know nothing about it... and most people who bash on it so much have never driven or ridden in a car with VTEC that actually worth using... like any B series or a K20A2 not the K20A3 cause the A3 is only a 2 lobe VTEC which is almost not even VTEC at all... in the S2000 with the F20C when the VTEC kicks in it's liek a turbo instantly spooled and the car starts to pull even harder yet... it brought a smile to my face and easily made me second guess buying a 350Z this weekend...

but do i think the S2000 should have placed alot higher than a 350Z, most certainly not, they should be roughly in a close range and i'd say the Z would edge it, faster, more options/ features, but doesn't quite handle as well from what i've been told...

The S2000 is a better sports car than the Z. It's a whole lot more nimble, and is just as quick in the 1/4. Sure, we can say that we have more power, but it holds it's own, revs high, and takes the twisties faster than we do.

Of course, I would never want to drive one every day due to impracticality, but practicality is not what sports cars are built for.

So, when doing a sports car test, the S2k should beat us...at least that's my $.02

This is a 350Z forum, not a "I HUMP V-TEC" forum. I have owned many v-tec/i-vtec honda motors i.e. k20a3, b16, h22, they all blow, they're are all slow, and BIG WASTE O MONEY, so I am entitled to complan and stipulate, I am very well informed on v-tec's technical design and functionality, it's not a big deal. That is why I currently own the finest sports car on the market today for the money. There is no other car that even remotely compares to the 350z price wise. The s2000 has a measly 162 lb/ft or torque that doesn't fully engage until 6500 freakin rpm's, (maybe you can spin the tires in first gear, but only if you drop the clutch @ 8,000 rpm, then again they are only 225 17"s) who the **** wants to wait until 6500 to feel max torque?! It gets worse gas mileage than the 350z and it's a stinkin 2.2 litre, BWHAAA HAHAHAHAHA. Not to mention a tiny 14 gallon tank that gives it a cruise range of my driveway. It has out dated wishbone suspension, inferior to the Z's all aluminum multilink design, it weighs in at 2850 lbs, just 300lbs shy of the Z (yet it only has room to fit 2 extremely small passengers and room for a can of soda in the trunk, wheres all that additional weight you ask, oudated and outdated some more, just look at the NSX that honda has been milking for close to 15 years, with no major design changes). The insurance rates on the s2000 are higher than what you would pay for monthly payment on the thing. Thats why the s2000 sucks. They are are torqueless 4 bangers. Check out how slow they are in comparison to the z, yet cost more than a performance edition Z, click down below:

I dig the S2K and VTEC. The Z and S2K are both equally fun cars for different reasons. But you get more car for your money with the Z IMO.

0-60 in 5.3? That's the fastest I've seen a stock Z (being reviewed) record.

Yeah, S2000 sucks.
Aloha,
This island is crawling with S2000 convertibles! Perhaps I'll try swatting a few on a nice widing stretch of highway. If I'm real lucky, it'll be on the way to the eastside of the Island via the Saddle Rd.
So, do the taste better with or without soy sauce? :rolf2:

:rolf2: :rolf2: :rolf2: Man all of your posts are killing me!!! I love to read them
though. I would agree 110%. S2000 SUCK!!!!
Airbag, you're the best! :lmfao:

I have never really liked the S2000 because of it's outrageous price and no-balls power. I don't know what Honda was thinking, but somebody dropped the ball on that one. Oh, yeah. I used to own a VTEC 2.2L Accord EX. Decent car for its price at the time.

And the 350Z IS THE best RWD sportscar for it's money. Nothing can compare, and the fact that we're in the club with more expensive cars says something: Don't ignore the Z.

Can someone help me out with the Top Gear RPM @ 60mph comparison that Airbag79 was kind enough to share? what does this mean?

This is the RPM of the motor in the top gear (with a manual Z that would be 6th) while traveling at 60mph. Lower numbers generally mean there's more of the power band left to play with
I've seen a few S2000's at the track. Slow! But, only because their drivers could not keep the rev's up in their power band. I killed these guys with torque and hp where I needed it. The S2000 is extremely close to the Z in every category, except ability of average drivers to drive them fast.

 very true!
First off...i want to get this out of the way...I love my Z! But all the people that just bashed Vtec need to go back and think about what vtec is...its a variable vavle timing system. Now if you have any idea what you are talking about you would realize that we have this in the 350z just a more mild form known as CVTCS. Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System. So personally you need to quit bashing on vtec especially in the S2000.

Heres a comment that was made earlier also...It gets worse gas mileage than the 350z and it's a stinkin 2.2 litre, BWHAAA HAHAHAHAHA.
Now when you take into consideration that this motor makes more horsepower per liter than our cars I guess it would be ok that it gets worse gas mileage than our cars....but i think that also has to do with how you drive the car and the gearing in the s2000.

Also.....the s2000 has just as much room for improvement as our cars...just for instance where my buddy is building his s2000 with a fully built aebs motor and a gt35/40 turbo that would eat small birds. It should be making close to 800 rwhp once its fully complete. So i guess you can't say those motors can't make horsepower.

I truely don't see where any of you can hate on that car....Actually I don't too many at all could beat it on the track once its done...
Also I do have a built motor twin turbo and im not trying to just defend the s2000 community. I just want everyone to see the great potential of the s2000. And I do believe that he will be able to beat me on and off the track with that car. just me being modest! I just hate to see this forum stoop as low as all the other forums and bash on every other car becuase its not a 350z.
Thats my .02 and im sticking to it!
Thank you and have a nice day!

So for a 2.2L coupe, why does it cost so much and why were sales so bad when they first came out? I remember most of the mags out there were bashing it.

I've seen some built S2k's and have to admire the work, but I still like the Z more.
