Hello guys,

Just installed the JWT ClutchKit+Flywheel combo. The performance is great, but after a week of driving (including hard driving on the track) the problem appeared with engaging in 3rd gear.

It seems fine when driving slowly below 4000rpm and when engaging slowly, but when I try to drive hard and the rpm in 2nd gear is above 6000, and when trying to shift hard to 3rd it will kind of jam the gear and gives the crancking noise of the gearbox.

My technician can not give me the defenite answere wether it is gearbox or clutch problem.

Really need help.

Thanks.

It is possible that you can just fix the synchros are be fine, and you can ALWAYS rebuild your transmission.

However the COD009 transmissions (the newest model, only things that changed are the synchros to my knowledge) are going for pretty cheap. :)

Just gotta look for them.

So I would always opt for a new transmission. Is your car still under warranty by any chance? A LOT of cars have suffered from a 3rd-gear blowout and have gotten their transmissions replaced under warranty.

Hope this helps.

That really helps.

I think I will go for new tranny. I guess rebuilding it will cost nearly the same.

The only thing I still think of is if it can be still a new clutch kit broblem.

Thanks

I got my JWT clutch/flywheel combo installed last week, drove it hard yesterday and I noticed that it was difficult for me to pop it into 3rd gear when driving it hard. I think it's just a matter of readjusting your timing since the clutch engagement point is now different. After a bit of practice I finally nailed it, well, got it into gear twice out of 5 hard turns..

Recently, to be sure in tranny problem, I disassembled the JWT combo and put the OEMclutch/flywheel. The result was the same, 3rd is not working. But I saw very interesting fact - the JWT disk surface was not even, it showed that not all of the surface parts were in use, thus when clutch engaged the disk still was touching the plate. I think this was the reason to destroy the syncros/gearbox.

Your thoughts/comments would be helpful, as I do not know if I should go ahead again with the JWT combo, after I replace or rebuild my tranny.

The 03 boxes (and a few others as far as I know) are notorious for synchros letting go. Have you changed the oil on your gearbox yourself? If you did, did you notice a heap of brass/copper looking metal in the old oil? If so then there is a real good chance that your synchros are on their way out. I'll actually be getting the JWT clutch/fly combo put in, in a couple weeks, I'll see if I get a similar prob.

After JWT combo install my clutch was engaging very low, while my friend has done the similar mod and his is engaging normally, at the OEM level. I gues because of uneven surface some parts of the disk were higher and still catching the plate as it could not be engaged fully.

Well I got the JWT clutch/fly combo installed today.

First impressions weren't great. After leaving the workshop it was very hard to get into any gear at all. After around 50 - 60K's of driving however it had freed right up and was back to normal. Take up point is a little low (too close to the floor) for my liking, so I will adjust it out slightly when i can be bothered. Other than those couple of teething problems, the clutch/fly combo will be good. Clutch isnt any heavier to use, grabs well so far, although I have only been driving it fairly lightly.... And the car seems alot more eager to wind out. Will be going for a long drive tomorrow, give it a bit more of a run, before I start any quick shifting etc etc... Will report back then.

One other thing has occurred though, the car isn't too happy idling on start up, IE: turn key, car starts, then the idle drops right down to almost nothing (has died twice however) and the idle when stopped at traffic lights etc, is a little higher than normal. Its not idling rough though. Anyone else have this problem? Me and my mechanic seem to think that this may be due to having a **** of alot less inertia. Thoughts?

I know this is an old thread...

Monk, I wonder if you lined up the sensor/magnet what ever on the back of the flywheel to the dot on the output shaft. The engine has a sensor to detect the position of the fly wheel and if it does not detect correct position that could cause issues.

Just an idea...
