So I just picked up a VIS carbon fiber hood for cheap.
It is used and seems to be yellowing. Anybody deal with this before? Any way to bring back the black? Doesn't really seem like an oxydation problem.

thanks

I'm not sure what method VIS uses to lay up their CF parts, but yellowing is typically a symptom of using polyester resin which has pretty much no UV tolerance. Which means it yellows over time. Sorry, but there's no fixing it. Unless, of course you want to paint it to match the rest of your car.

yea dude just like the last guy said the carbon is gone. What i have been told is you gotta wax it all the time and even with that it can still eb turned yellow. I bought a siebon hood in feb kept my car in a garage and by april it was yellow. I dont even drive my car daily for this to happen. The funny thing is I bought a CF trunk from extreme dimension about 2 years ago and it is still looking good. That really says alot about some of these so called high priced companys who say there stuff is the best.

It only takes 4-6 months for that to happen to VIS parts. The resin yellows all the way to the carbon weave. you can't polish it off. They are garbage. I had one of their hoods and it did this too. I called and complained and they told me that they would give me a new one at 30% off which is bullshit because I can pick one up from a vendor in my area for less than that.

Cool,
thanks for the help guys. I really like the design of the hood so eventually I will have to paint it to match.
