I hydrolocked my 350 a few months back, thankfully got it to run again but it burns about 4.7 qts of oil everytime I go through a tank of gas, also a huge loss in power. I don't want to tear the engine engine apart and find out it might just be something simple. I was thinking it is either the headgasket or a piston ring? perhaps valve. I'm not sure. any help would be appreciated thanks.

Welcome and I'm sorry to hear your story. The VQ is a precision built engine and never has that kind of oil loss unless something is badly damaged. Whatever happened is not a "simple" repair. To start, you could: 1) scan the ECM for any codes; 2) do a leakdown tests and 3) perform a compression test. But I suspect any or all of these tests will show the engine needs a rebuild anyway.

How many miles were on the car when it was hydrolocked? What occurred to cause it to become hydrolocked in the first place?

A **** of a lot of frustration and effort to remove the heads while the engine is still in the car,
if you don't find the problem it would have been easier to tear down the engine outside the car

A damaged piston ring is highly likely which means a full engine tear down

thanks for the reply. the engine has 115k miles on it, how it got hydrolocked was ankle deep water that somehow splashed up into the intake. I pulled it apart and there was water puddled up in it, cleaned it out then blew 3 of the 6 plugs to get it to run again. that's what I'm thinking messed up my engine. probably one or 2 of the 3 that I didn't take out had water and bent something? I ran codes. it says misfire in random or multiple cylinders. that is because of a corroded spark plug because of the burning oil. no other codes are on it.

I'll double down on my advice and say your VQ needs a full rebuild before you damage it permanently. Do you have a garage, tools and the skills to DIY (partially or complete)?
