I have it. It only actually burned to the touch once. Yes it got that hot. Most of the time it's warm. Haven't had it in the winter. I keep my windshield coverred now as well so hasn't been a problem as of late
No metal for me. Where I live (low deserts of So. Cal.) it's 110+ all summer long. So it doesn't matter even in the shade it's hot. Even the shift pattern on the stock shifter will burn you if you're not careful.
