So a few weeks ago I installed a new HU in my Z. While testing it out, I noticed that the unit would always shut off when the headlights were turned on. I ran a ground wire to a screw through a metal plate inside the console, and that seemed to fix the problem. This didn't seem like something I should have to do. Does anyone have any thoughts? The unit is an Alpine CDA-7984 in case that matters.

Looks like some wires got crossed up.. I bet you tapped into the illumination wire instead of ground..
