When I bought my car there was some damage to my drivers seat trim. They ordered the part, it came in and today was my service appointment.
It took about 1 hour, and I had to wait at the dealership. As I was looking through the window from the service dept. to the garage about 45 min into my wait and to my horror I see the mechanic struggling to remove my drivers seat and not being cautious at all!
I couldn't watch anymore as the seat was being thrown around and just crossed my fingers that their wouldn't be any collateral damage. No such luck.

I'm sure you all know this, it is common sense but it should be mentioned just in case.

ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CAR FOR DAMAGE AFTER ANY SERVICE ! ! !

Even something as simple as an oil change you never know what they can damage in 20 min.

Anyways so the guy pulls out my car and it takes me about 10 sec to see the damage to my drivers side kick plate. I wasn't that pissed cause I knew they would take care of it, I was pissed about the lack of integrity on the mechanic. I told the girl at the sales counter about the damage and she got the mechanic so he could see.
That ******* walked right up pointed to the damage without me telling him where it was and said "Oh, that?" "Ok I will get the piece on order" . . . . HE KNEW HE DID IT AND DIDN"T SAY ANYTHING! Not even an apology. Sack of ****.

I am never getting any minor maintenance done at the dealership ever again . . . even if it is free. (barring major warranted items of course) I should have taken the piece they ordered for me and installed it myself. Live and learn.

Here is a pic, maybe hard to see but there is 3 decent size gashes on the kick plate.

decent size gashes? they look like three small scrapes. not something you should flip out about.

seems like tiny things like this set you off. you're now the resident firecracker! :)

yeah...it's stupid of the mechanic to be careless...but, at least they're replacing it. right? he could have said "nah, those were there already". i wouldn't worry about it...they're replacing it.

i hope you don't yell at the bugs that splat on your car...or the cars in front of you that kick of anything that might, in turn, chip the crappy paint on the front bumper. ;)

My post was meant to be a reminder about checking your car after service, and in turn to consider doing small replacements or repairs yourself.

That's it.

ah! i see.

it is good to do small repairs on your own...if you know how to do them. :)

but, yes...check the car afterwards. can't hurt.

Tony, I agree with you that taking your car to the dealership should not have to result in MORE damage. You wouldn't have to wait for that part to come in, if the mechanic took better care in the first place.

As far as smiling about driving a Z, well would you be smiling that you are driving a Ferrari if the same incident occured with an F430? The only way that I would smile in this type of situation is if I was bringing in a 1986 Civic that was beyond wear and tear.

You guys are acting like I'm a raving lunatic. The mechanic was a sack of **** . . . . that's it. I don't appreciate shoddy work, or people that don't have the integrity to own up to what they did. If it was a $2 part or my complete drivetrain it it's the principle. I vented.

I will modify my future posts so . . . .

Took car to dealership to get seat fixed, mechanic did more damage. Slightly pissed, PITA that I have to go back again.

But I'm smiling that I'm driving my Z

Your car should come out of service just the way it came in - except for what needed to be repaired.

Period. Here's a tip. Stay "around" the bay doors and watch what goes on.

I agree, I always watch the mechanics and make sure they don't treat my car like crap. But great news that they are fixing it! As always, if they just would have been more careful, you would not have to mess with getting the part ordered, getting it in, and then installing it. If anyone should mess up your car, it should be you....the owner not some stupid, careless mechanic.

It doesn't matter what kind or vehicle you drive if it goes into the shop, especially the dealers, it is to be fixed. Now that they dinged the kick plate you get to go back to the dealer once again. I don't know about you but I do not have the time to keep visiting my dealer. I may sound like I'm bitching and would be pissed off...but that's one persons opinion.
Most mechanics are very competent, there is always that one. cards are delt to us very strange at times.

Thanks I needed this!!

Last time I took the Z in for service, they had it for about a week to fix a brake issue. A few later I started to thoroughly clean out the interior and found a Jaguar business card and some cheapo plastic clear lens glasses underneath the driver's seat. Never been to a Jag dealership in the Z, and the glasses were definitely not mine.

Came back a month after finding these items, go to the service bay area, and see one of the valet/tech guys wearing those exact same glasses. Decided not to say anything as I couldn't prove that he or anyone else for that matter took my Z for a joy ride. + They are the best dealership in my area, and like to have these guys on my side if anything was ever to arise.

Karen, first of all, lesbians are cool :irock: .

Second of all, I think that you might have a point. Even though it obviously does not bother me, I can understand that not all visitors of 350z-tech appreciate my admiration for round, plump, juicy asses  Having said that, I will try to replace my avatar tonight when I get home.

I can see the point that another member has brought up of entering a 350z - related site and not a pornography-related sight. That pic could have been construed as "excessive" so I replaced it. However, I can PM you the full size version if you'd like. Just let me know.

When I had the Nissan dealer fix the passenger window register the jacked up the aluminum insert in the interior passenger door handle. Its bent up and has bite marks from the screwdriver they used to remove it. The problem is I didn't notice it for about 6 months after the repair.
