I was thinking the other day that a Ferrari Style shifter would be a really cool mod for the Z.

The only problem is that, like myself, many members have short shifter kits and therefore the gates are placed differently.

Does anybody know of a shop or retailer were we could possibly manufacture a unit or even do a group buy for specific short shifter kits?

What do you guys think???

Aloha,
I've been thinking about it as well, just need the time to template the gate layout, then cut the aluminum. This may be awhile, however, like I said I've been thinking about it as well. So far, haven't found anyone that has this item available. First priority is my intake support bracket.

Anyone know the way to twist flat stock to form a spiral shape?

Anybody out there able to perform precision machinery with the ability to devise something like this?

I was thinking to have the gates drawn out on top of the shifter, and have an engraved "Z" emblem somewhere on the bottom of the assembly.

Not at all! I cannot stand those rice krispie movies :punch:

I had just always loved the look and sound of well done gated shifters.

You must have dug deep to find this thread

yea i was bored...

interesting mod tho, anybody done it?
is it even possible?

YOU WON'T DO IT!!!!
I think the R/D costs will be way too high for this to work for just one person, or even a small group.

the what cost?
R/D = Research and Development

You basically have to restructure the entire shifter assembly from the bottom up to make this idea work.

On one of the episodes of Orange County Chopper, Paul Senior went to a blacksmith. He twisted some flat stock into a spiral. If I remember ... the guy put one end in a vice, heated the stock with a torch and twisted it with a wrench.

(Let me preface this by saying I've got a bit of wheel time in a Ferrari 355 vert')

Seems like a cool idea, but you're lookin at a lot more than just adding a plate to make the transmition "look" gated. It won't react the same as it would in a Ferrari, and most likely, won't work without substantial modification.

The shift mechanism itself in a ferrari is responsible for the bolt-action feel of the shifter. When you go to change gears, the lever moves to neutral with a spring-tension feel, in preparation for the next gear to be selected.

What makes a gated transmition is the action of the lever, not the shape of the plate over the H-pattern.
