just wanted to throw this out there to see what others thought, i know others have to be thinking about it. i almost did it for my integra type r, until it got stolen. well as far as all the little parts, all you would need would be single or dual garrett turbos, FMIC, wastegates, BOV, downpipes, etc. Wouldnt it be possible to build your own for less? When i was going to buy my kit i was gonna have to upgrade the BOV & wastegate in the kit, so i thought whats the point in doing that when i can piece it the way i want to. I knwo it is easier to purchase it all at once but some of us dont have 4-7 grand, and it would be nice to buy the parts as you need them. well, just post what you think

Or if you own the shop and have your employees do it for you. I would have to understand the whole concept of FI and turbos before I did that. I still find myself reading so much about it and being overloaded with conflicting information. Seems like everyone's the expert, but no one has the same answer.

I think it would be significantly easier to copy the piping (if you have access to other kits), buy your turbos & wastegates, get a piggyback computer (emanage), and learn a few wiring precautions to prevent the engine from going KABOOM . . .

The only prob I foresee is the manifolds . . . ****, I'm even seeing wastegates for the Greddy kit for sale on ebay at dirt cheap pricing!

A few members have gotten custom kits made. Michael (Skidazzle) made a custom tt kit, I believe he was one of the first. One of the hardest things I think is the exhaust manifold on the 350Z and the tuning, if you can get past that then it shouldn't be too hard. I was thinking of doing what someone else said, copying another companies kit, I was thinking of copying Top Secret's single turbo kit for a USDM 350Z (the one they make is JDM only). I figure i'll probably end up getting an APS TT and call it a day though .

Just a thought which might help some of you guys.

APS is considering offering a tuner system based on the APS intercooled single turbo system...................everything you need other than the fuel and engine management for around 4K.

This would save you guys heaps of headaches..................all you would need to do is to add your choice of fuel parts and preferred tuning product. :smiley69:

Interested in your thoughts.

Thanks

Yep, it would be alot cheaper to fab your own kit, but only if it was done properly!
All the kits on the market today make the manufacturers alot of money.
For instance the APS kit outstanding but, here in OZ it costs us approx $16000.00+ AUD fitted and installed!!!!!
Alot of moula!!!
Can't begin to imagine how much they make from it???
Imagine buying some turbos, intercooler, fuel system, getting some pipes bent and a custom manifold made....I don't think it will add uptp $16K????
But for the peace of mind we let someone else do it and in the mean time make them rich???
If we were smart we would all put our heads together and approach an engineering shop and get them to make it & guarantee them X amount of sales. They would make the money from installs, fabrication, etc..
Unfortunately we can't do that here in Oz as not enough Zeds over here, but you guys in the US should be able to do it...
The question is: Is anyone(s) prepared to do it?
It may be worthwhile to almost exact copy a current kit as most of the parts as mentioned above are just off the shelf parts.
I'd love to see someone have a go and get the kits much more affordable - probably $2500-$3000 grand cheaper than current kits.

Oh, and before people start talking about warranties with the current kits, I do not think this is very applicable. How many people that have blown their F/I motors had them repaired under warranty???

Very, very few, I bet?
My two cents!!!
PS: Sick of being ripped off!!!

i was thinking of doing this my self for a friend. i ahve done a couple of custom turbo kits for civics. i have a guy that makes custom manifolds for me. which are sent to me unfinished so i can mount the turbo where ever i want. so alll that is left is getting a IC made and i can get all the intercooler pipeing made and down pipe made. which i am waiting on my tig welder so i can start doing that. so really right now i am looking for a car to do it on. hopefully i will have one made by this summer. i will let you guys know how it comes up.
