First off let me start by Saying, GODDAMN IT!, MUFCKEING SH!T, :soapbox:
Ok now that I feel a little better, Here is the Deal. I took my Z to APS Racing :shiftdrive: to Get my new headers Installed. (APS came highly recommended). and so they get started. First step Take off the Hi-flow Cats, Sounds simple right? :ahhh: wrong, all the Bolts/Nuts on the Cats would not Come off, they had to be BROKEN off. We tried everything to get them off but they all broke!

Ok, not that big of a deal, a few new bolts for the cats was not an issue. Strut brace comes off, intake comes off, so they start on the Drivers side Header. Take off the heat Shield, no Problem. Get to the first (easiest) bolt on the stock headers. **** it seems like its stuck too :xZ!o: They Tried a longer Ratchet, no luck, Tried a Breaker bar, The **** thing will not break loose (by this time the bolt is almost stripped). Spray on some Stuff to help it loosen, No luck, tried a 6 point socket, nope, the owner comes over to try with the Breaker bar again, Nope. Another Guy comes over to help.(he spent about 30 mins working on it, and nothing. Ok, ok Lets try another bolt, Same thing, To **** tight. :helpsmilie: Ok check the Serves Manual.. "Self Locking Manifold bolts should always be replaced after every Disassembly...torque bolts to 28.5 lbs." :wtf: you should be able to break these loose with and open end wrench!! They tried some other stuff to get the bolts off :goodtimes: no luck.

They think, that the Nissan Tech :headshake: that put the stock headers back on when the engine was re-built (and out of the car), used the same/old Bolts and Nuts.(a big no-no with these type of bolts) And just Sucked them Down with a 1/2 Impact wrench. :lame: There is no way the stock headers are EVER coming off the car. :furious: The only Option is to PULL THE ENGINE and Cut all the old bolts off! ($900 to $1000 to do it) :anal:

I'm so Pissed right now :punch: I think my head is going to explode. I spent 4 hours (and $60) in the Shop for nothing. :F-you: Just wait till I get a hold of the :shoot2: Tech and the
Service Manager. :50cal: I think they should put my new headers on for free since they are the ones that messed them up to begin with. :furious: I'm going up there tomorrow to have a little "talk" :fish: with them.

I'll keep you posted. I might have a set of DC Headers 4 sale Very soon

That sucks big time. I know that when we were working on installing the APS turbo kit on Jay's car we had one stud that was giving us a really hard time but we eventually got it using vice grips. We were worried about having to cut it and then pull the engine to remove it entirely. Anyway, good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Personally, I would go in screaming and yelling until they felt that they have to appease you with anything to calm you down and not cause a scene with customers.

That sux, good luck Chazz. I'll be havine them attempt my dc header install soon now that I'm being told it won't interfere with the Single turbo kit.

Let's hope that is the case.

The Guys at ATS did All they Could. None of this is their Fault, they are great . I was just Frustrated that I could not get my new headers put on. They did not do Christy SC, just her long tube headers and Cams

My Headers did Come with all new Bolts/hardware

What happened with your motor before?
Its a long Story, But the Short Version is that I had a bent Rod on the #2 Cyl. So I replaced all the rods, Pistons, and rings

Im heading up to the dealership in a little bit to :chair: :nutkick:

Well i know this is long over due, but a few people have been asking what happened.

Well, I went up to the dealership where my Engine was rebuilt to raise some ****. The tech that did my rebuild said he never took my OEM headers off the engine, ( I know this is not true because i saw my OEM headers on the ground one time when i was up there to check on the Progress of the rebuild) So they said it was not their fault that the bolts where so tight. The tech said he could put the headers on for me but it would be at lest 7 labor hours or a little over $600.00 I told them to go ahead and do it, but only if there would be no hidden cost ( i did not want to come back to pick my car up and have a $1,200 bill because "something came up")

Well a day later the Service Manger called me and said the only way they could get the headers on, was to pull the engine and that would cost over $2000. I was like WTF?? The Tech TOLD ME HE COULD DO IT WITHOUT PULLING THE ENGINE!!?? Well it turned out that the tech did not want to "Risk it", if he tried it and could not get a bolt off or broke one during the install then, he would have to pull the engine to do it the right way, with out charging me and therefor he would not get paid for all the work he would have to do.

So my choice was this, Do nothing and keep my OEM headers for the life of the car, Tell the tech to go a head and try it, but if something when wrong I would have to pay for the engine to be pulled $2000 + or take the chance that he could do it with out any problems and it would only cost $600+. (now personally I have NEVER had a dealership charge me the less of the two prices they have quoted me)

So needless to say I have a Set of DC Sport headers Just sitting in my Garage (anybody want them for $400 ?)

My current plan is to wait awhile, then take it up to Crawford Z in Nashville (a 10 hour drive) and have them put on a set of their headers ( I have heard they pull the engine to put theirs on anyway) but their headers are around $1200. So I'm still looking at about $2000 to put headers on my Z ( at least i will get better set of headers this way)

WOW! What a mess Chazz! Hope things have been fixed. Has anything been resolved? What's the status? I'm curious about the bolt replacement also. I'm in the process of pulling my headers, exhaust, and tranny to install new headers, test pipes, exhaust, and clutch/flywheel. I know the manual states to replace certain bolts on every removal but is it absolutely necessary. The bolts I removed from my stock headers appeared to be in great shape. Maybe I'll start a thread asking the question. Let me know what the status is. Thanks!
