Here are some pics showing Gundam02's engine covers that he has been doing for me over the past week. They are now completed and on their way! Awesome work Josh!!! Can't wait to get them! The pics show the progress from the first base coat to the final clear coat.

SWEEEET!

Hokay...so I'm trying to understand the process here. It looks like he had to prep it with a special adhesive for the plastic to hold the paint. Then it looks like he painted the whole piece, but I see the front of the engine cover is now silver. Also, if he taped off the letters of the covers, how was the overspray around the lettering prevented?

The finished product looks great! The lettering is a great contrast to the blue. Gives me ideas about the silver now. I originally wanted those pieces painted all blue, but the idea for the lettering is a good one.

Smooth - you should probably ask Gundam (or maybe he'll just post here) on the specifics of the prep work. I'm not exactly the most knowledgable person on painting and prep work in general, so I'm sure he could give you some more info. What I do know is that there is no overspray and that a lot of work goes into it to get to the finished product.

He did CS on the front of the engine cover and lettering on the small covers to match my car.

Suse, you should PM Gundam02 for price if you're interested. It's very affordable and not $380. Depends on what work you want him to do.

Track, aside from the front of the engine cover, that's EXACTLY how I want to get mine painted. I'd say stop copying me, but since you seem to get stuff first, I'll say stop stealing my ideas! Haha. I'm gonna see if Josh can paint mine while my Z is sleeping for the winter

Dirn, Maybe I shouldn't tell you what I'm thinking about doing next. LOL. I think winter is the perfect time get work done. You won't miss the pieces as much.

I went with the two tone color to be a little different, although I'm not the first to do it. Got the idea from Randal P's engine bay which looks incredible now that he put the Pi-thon hose kit on. Maybe I'm the first to do this with a CS?

I wrote up a DIY a while back and here is the link. I should tell Josh and Jaysen to put it in the DIY section here.

http://www.sc-side02.com/350z/diy.htm

This lays out the basic process. All of the silver paint is simply sprayed on top of the first set of clear coats. Paint sticks quite good to the clear, but if you are at all worried you can scuff the clear with steel wool or a green brillow pad to get a little better hold.

And with the letters being masked there is no overspray, unless you are talking about the battery and brake fluid covers. That I explain how to do in the DIY.

Anyone that wants to try doing this yourself I would be glad to help as much as I can. I know quite a bit about this stuff so far and I constantly working to make my process even better.

And Track, I can't wait to see them on your car. This is going to be interesting on the CS Z.

Are you 2 bickering over the pi-thon hose clamps???

Something like this??

I did mine in the chrome.

However I along with the others here (I assume the others too) will contest to the fact that Dirn has called dibs on the pi-thon hoses idea over TrackZ03.

Josh, to say that I'm amazed at your work is an understatement. These covers are a work of art.

The lettering is unbelievable.
