Hi Toykilla,

I've purchased the following speakers for my car and need some advice on how to drive them.

Boston Pro60 Components
power range: 2-125 watts RMS (150 watts peak power)
frequency response 50-22,000 Hz
sensitivity: 90 dB

Boston G21044 10" DVC 600W
Rated RMS power handling 300 watts
Nominal Impedance Dual 4-ohm
Recommended Enclosure 0.5ft ³ (14.2 L) volume sealed

I'm looking at the following amps:
For the components...
Boston GT-40 AMP 460W AMPLIFIER GT40 4 CH
Multi-Ch. Power @ 4-ohm (12.6VDC) 4x45W
Multi-Ch. Power @ 2-ohm (12.6VDC) 4x70W
Dual-Mono Power @ 4-ohm(12.6VDC) 2x140W
Dual-Mono Power @ 2-ohm (12.6VDC) 2x175W
Mixed Op. Power @ 4-ohm, 2ohm (12.6VDC) 2x45W, 1x190W
Mixed Op. Power @ 4-ohm, 2ohm (14.4VDC) 2x55W, 1x240W
Frequency Response (-3dB) 10Hz-95kHz
Signal to Noise Ratio (A Weighted) >100dB

And the sub...
Boston GT-28 SUBWOOFER AMP 500W GT28 2 CH
Multi-Ch. Power @ 4-ohm (12.6VDC) 2x75W
Multi-Ch. Power @ 2-ohm (12.6VDC) 2x135W
Dual-Mono Power @ 4-ohm(12.6VDC) 1x275W
Dual-Mono Power @ 2-ohm (12.6VDC) 1x390W
Frequency Response (-3dB) 10Hz-95kHz
Signal to Noise Ratio (A Weighted) >100dB

I'm completely retarded where this stuff is concerned so I'd like to know if the amps I'm considering are over/under powered (I'm just not sure which numbers I need to be comparing). The amps are manufactured by JL despite the Boston badge, so if there's a less expensive JL alternative that would be cool, too.

Thanks!

I have a Boston GT-40...new for sale. Purchased from authorized vendor...used for 1 hour to test system install. The TRU amp arrived one day late.

Make an offer if interested.

Toykilla, thanks for the how to on installing the HU and the front speakers. I did it 2 weeks ago and so far so good. Almost.....

As I live in FLA, I don't open my windows much. As it turns out, my wife opened her window yesterday after she let one rip, if you know what I mean, and lo and behold, the window hits the speaker when you roll it all the way down :banghead:

So I went to Circuit City and bought a set of Metra 1 inch spacer rings. The guy at the shop told me this wouldn't fix it, since the problem is not the depth of the speaker but the size of the magnet. Is this right? It doesn't smell right.

What do you know about this? Will the 1 inch spacers work? Do I have enough clearance with the door panel to raise the speaker that much? I have a set of Pioneer 6 1/2s in there. I can't remember the model, I had them in my 4Runner, along with a Pioneer HU, with my 60GB ipod connected. I have a 10inch sub and a Rockford amp which are not yet installed. I'm looking into putting these 6 1/2s in the back, and buying some components for the front, but I want to fix the window problem ASAP.

Should I try the spacer rings?

Thanks!

Did you make spacers out of the stock speakers like i did in my tutorial?

The problem IS the depth of the speaker. The window rolls down behind the speaker, so the deeper the speaker, the better chance of clashing.

1" spacer may be too deep. If you follow my tutorial exactly you will see i had to shave part of the door panel (inside, not visible)

Will the steering wheel controls from an Infiniti FX plug into my Z's bose head unit.

They will work for an aftermarket HU...don't know about the Bose HU. Doubt it has the correct input for the remote controller.

I did everything except cut out the spacers from the stock speakers... BUT, as it turns out, the spacers from Metra and the stock spacer are both 1". I used them today, and I got it up and running.

Windows work perfectly, the door panel fits nicely like new.

Thanks!

Hello all

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the Bose 6 disc changer, more specifically none of my cds will play and i get a message that says check disc. I know the discs are good and it does this in all 6 slots. Thanx in advance

I had the Bose in dash 6 cd changer in my QX4 with the same problem. $325 to fix from the dealer. From what I read, it seems pretty common. I also hear they are actually Clarion cd changers. The speakers and amp is Bose.
