After some absence from tuning forums... I'm back. (kept the Z stock for all these years... unfortunately it's worth nothing now considering the low KMs. So I'm keeping it until it's a relic in the bush)

Looking for a track set-up and I hatched this idea from different sources. Wanting to know if it can be done. Wanting it to be square as posible.

275/40/17 on the front with a 10.5" wide rim.
275/40/18 on the rear with a 11" wide rim.

I have a VDC so I want the rotations to be roughly within a 1% margin from stock. (-1.2% front, -0.1% rear). Also wanting to stick as close to the factory +30 offset because I don't plan on changing the suspension except for sway bars. It's a '03 anyways.

Plan 'B' if the fronts don't work is 255/45/17 on a 9.5" wide rim. (0.2% rotational difference from factory)

any input?

Thanks

If you're looking for a track wheel combo, there's no advantage to using a staggered setup as proposed. What "sources" did you get advice from, and what were their explanations for such a combo? If you must stick with 17" wheels, go with 17 X 10 and 275s all 'round. It'll allow you to swap tires front-to-back with no problem.

My citations include: Sport Compact Car Project 350Z, Tune University... etc.

The reasoning for the staggered rim size is to keep the tire wall height consistent on all tires. Also to stay roughly in the 40 to 45 series. I'm restricted to the factory wheel radius because of the VDC system and ABS... yadda, yadda. So buying four of the same tires isn't going to be an option.

Not sure what your understanding of ABS or VDC is, but staggered rims and tire wall height do not have to remain at factory wheel sizes. As long as the circumference of both front and rear tires is the same, you can use what's called a "square" setup without problems. Problems can occur when the front wheel/tire size is larger than the rear tires; VDC will go crazy in that case.

In my racing career with the Z33, we've used 285-30-18, 275/35-18 and now, 245-40-18 on all four wheels without any issues. SCCA has continued to use rule changes to slow the Z over the years.
