Hey folks

So, during the dealer-install buildup I have going, we learned today that the 06 motors have changed a bit. Turns out there is now a sensor on both the intake and exhaust cam, whereas 05-earlier has a sensor only on the intake cam. For whatever reason this exhaust cam sensor is not compatible with the R Tune exhaust camshafts.

The dealer tech called the Nismo tech and determined that there are no issues with running only the R-Tune intake cams in the 06 motor, and retaining the OEM exhaust cams. Apparently the Nismo exhaust cams are extremely mild, with less than 0.005 difference in overlap from using the OEM exhaust cam.

So, just fyi.. if you have an 06 motor and want to run Nismo cams without issue then you only need the intake cams and you still get all the claimed power gains as stated by Nismo.

Cheers,

Any idea what this mystery sensor does? I thought the '05 and '06 300hp engines were identical.

The 300 HP engines have variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust, whereas the 287 HP engines have variable valve timing only on the intake.
