i'm hearing rumors of Sport Compact Car reviewing new Nissan "leaked" info and they say it's going to be not "R35" or "V36," but, instead "C36." but i got the September issue and there is nothing of the sort in there. anyone have the August issue to confirm this, maybe?

????

can anyone speak to this?

BTW.. we have some exciting news for the GT-R fans on this site coming soon :)

yes and no. i mean, there were long running rumors that they would carry the "R" heritage name and call it R35, hence entire sites called "R35.com" and forum topic headers with "new R35 discussed here..." etc..

but it never made any sense. and i knew it was not going to be "V35" as that was already taken. and it could not have been "V36," as the GTR has nothing to do with the V-series chassis.

so that left it hugely unknown. until, apparently, now. it's "BNC36." according to latest rumor. very similar to BCNR33. so the heritage is carried, but not exactly in the way i was thinking. yet the designation is so simple a variant. the answer was under our noses, apparently, the whole time. but how could we have really known such an arcane thing?

History of chassis codes:

Skyline GT-R:
BNR32->BCNR33->BNR34

Skyline/Coupe: (G35 Sedan / G35 Coupe)
V35/CPV35-> V36/CPV36 (unconfirmed)

350Z:
Z31->Z32->Z33

i'm not sure what the CP in CPV35 stands for. I assume coupe.
i'm also not sure what the BCN/BN in BCNR33/BNR34 stand for.
i dont think the actual chassis designation really matters other than that it may indicate how nissan looks at the car. i dont see any reason why it couldnt be R35.

yes. i thought that, too. but it looks like we may be both off-base. if it is indeed C36 GTR, that is a huge piece of news. i'm out to get that issue of SCC if i can find it. back in a bit...

Excuse my ignorance as I am new to Nissan sport cars. C36 means 3.6L V6 Twin Turbo? :doh:
Nope. Chassis designation has no bearing on engine displacement or method of induction. Chassis codes are just little bits of geek candy.

Another benefit of chassis/engine codes is that they make small talk around the local performance shop a whole lot more concise.

Without chassis/engine codes:

"Did you see Kevin's car? He's got a 240SX, somewhere between an '89-94... anyway he installed the motor from a '91 Skyline GT-S in it. It is very nice, indeed."

With chassis/engine codes:

"See that kid Kevin? RB25 in an S13. Sh*t is sick, yo."
