Well not only did I lose third gear, I have burned up my Tilton clutch and flywheel. In order to launch it smoothly, you really have to abuse it.

The dealer is giving me a new gearbox on warranty, giving me a new (slightly more streetable) clutch disk and pressure plate, but I have to pay for a new flywheel. All in all not such a bad result. Guess I gotta work on my launch technique.

EEEK! Well, it's good they're taking care of you. I guess it could of been worse. What flywheel are you going to go with now? Heavier or the same weight? 13lbs might be a bit more forgiving with the setup but who knows. Daily driving must be rough!
Good luck!

I'm a glutton for punishment (
), so I'm going with another Tilton 8 lb. flywheel. Jason at Performance Nissan had the same clutch/flywheel set-up as mine and drives it on the street all the time. They took it apart after 20,000 miles and the clutch and flywheel were fine. It must be my launch technique. Trying to make a smooth launch from a dead stop with the Tilton set-up just causes too much abuse to the system. Jason is gonna show me his launch technique when I pick the car up tomorrow. He says he just lets the clutch pedal out without giving it any gas, until the point where it just starts to grab, and then he hammers the throttle. Seems like it might make for a pretty jarring start, but I will try it.

I still have my JWT 14 lb. flywheel, and my stock clutch and flywheel, so I have other options if the replacement set-up doesn't last.

My launch technique?.....

Turn off Trac Lock...

Put in D(rive)...

Mash gas...

Get sideways out the driveway!

Then later.....

Bribe cop,
kill neighbor.

Richard, makes me glad (in a way) the wifey wouldn't let me get the m/t...I get in enough trouble as it is...

19,000 miles on the car. About 5,000 - 6,000 miles on the Tilton set-up, including probably 500 miles on the racetrack.

Thats crazy that it burned up that fast. But like you said, you may have ridden it hard a lot. I know launching is tough with that thing. Im thinking about going with one of the flywheel/clutch combos. What were you charged to get yours installed?
