HSV-club is holding a DECA day on the 12th of June and I'm going to go with them. Last time I was there I had the CV8-R so I'm taking the 350Z this time.
You don't usually need anything to attend DECA days (ie. no CAMS license, no helmet, no exinguisher required). It usualy costs around $60 and there are about 40 entries. I can't think of a safer way to have fun with your car and learn about it's limits as you will never get out of 2nd gear and there's nothing to hit (with the exception of the witches hats). Here's some footage from last time (and the 1st time) that I had the 350Z there:
Heck, I just realised that on the same day the WRX-club Sandown sprints are being held. I wanted to go to that as well. I can't go to both, so unless someone wants to DECA then I'll probably go to Sandown and wait for another DECA day later in the year.
i would like to go. But not sure if i should take my dad's HSV VX R8 or my Z
I've had the 350Z as well as the R8 out there (and also S2000, 323 and CV8-R) and I'd say take the Zed if it's your 1st time there. Not only will you learn a lot about the car, but the DECA is a lot more suited to nimble and responsive cars. Still, I've had fon in any/all the cars there ... it makes you appreciate the Zed, and makes you wish that you had it there as well.
Let me know if you're interested in going as I don't mind missing the Sandown event if there's at least few of us going.
OK, I got more information. The day will cost $40 if you are not a members of HSV-club (if you are then it's $30). Also I do have an entry form here ... I had it faxed to me. So please PM me if you would like to come and we'll figure out how to get the form to you. I might scan it and put it up so that it can be downloaded.
I'm sending my form in ASAP, but they do still have 20 (or so) spots available.
It's in Shepparton ... which is in the same direction/route as Winton but about 1/2 an hour closer.
can you fax the form to me?
I'll try and do so tomorrow ... hopefully the quality will be OK. Let me know once you've got it and if it's not good then we'll sort something else out.
Excellent ... I just filled mine in and am faxing it off tomorrow morning.
For anyone else interested, just download the entry-form via the following link (ie. right-click and save). It is a 300dpi GIF file so you just need to print it out, fill it in and fax it off to get your entry in.
DECA is this Sunday so it's probably a good time to organize how to get there. No problem if anyone wants to drive up on their own, but if anyone if interested in meeting up and driving up together then post here or give me a call.
I met up with Yun and Daniel last time we went to Winton. I met Yun on Kings Way just before the Freeway entrance. If I remember correctly there's a big petrol station on the right hand side (when facing the city) not far from a Mercedes dealership. That petrol station should be a good spot to meet for anyone needing to pass through the city. Lionking we met at 1st McDonalds on Hume Hwy once we got off the Ring Road.
Also we are aiming to be there at DECA at 8:30am and it'll take us around 2 hours to get there from the city if I remember correctly (while keeping to the speed limits). Also you will not need to fill up on the way (or there) as if you drive up with full tank then you'll make it there, and have enough petrol for DECA and then to get you home. Also if needed there's a BP only about 1 minute drive from the DECA facilities.
So I'm thinking that for anyone who's going to meet up on Kings Way, we need to meet up at 6:15am. So what are everyones thought?
david i'm going too. So i'm still unsure whether i'm in the list or not.
What do you mean? Are you saying that you have faxed in your entry-form, but are not sure whther it has been accepted? If so, why not call Justin on 0418 579 920 who is organizing the entries and check. Also mention to him that you want to be in the same group as the other 350Z and S2000s ... that way we'll all be in the same group.
ps. Do you also want to meet up at the Caltex station on Kings way?
thought i read up top u were going to Sandown instead
Yeah I did think about it, but there was a fair bit of interest for DECA so I figured I'd go there instead. DECAs are pretty rare, while there are sprints at Sandown at least once a month. I'll probably go to Sandown sometimes after DECA.
Also David, what option of run did you select? Everything? including the skid pan and slalom run?
I ticked everything ... afterall, if you don't like the look of something then you don't have to participate. So you're better ticking the whole lot.
and who else? Because justin told me in order to put all of us in the same group. i need to write down all the name and fax it to him.
Yeah ... when I spoke to him (ie. 6 weeks ago) he said to just note it on the entry form. If you're going to fax a form to Justin then why not just put down all the 350Zs and S2000s (there'll be a few S2000 also). Might even have an RX8 there, but not sure about that.
Though, if you need names then I have only one for the S2000 (ie. Anthony) so put him down as well.
ps. I'd pressume that all the non Holden/HSV cars will be grouped together anyway, but that's just me second-guessing what they'll do.
