Ok I am just tryin to get my ideas straight for my car, i just want some input, I have 5gs or so to spruce up my car and id like to keep her NA and reaching 300hp. I plan to do all the modding around april or late march when its warm enough to take her out. Id like to get more performance over looks right now, but a few in and outs for style wouldnt be bad....btw ill be installing it all so no money dishin out for mechanics

What i have
JWT pop charger
Grounding Kit
Top speed headers
nismo oil cap and cooler cap
drill slotted rotors
tv,ps2,radio,blah,blah

What im pondering...
1. Borla TD-$800
2. Hi flo cats-kinitex $350
OR Straight Pipes a lil riskier- Top Speed $95
3. Plenum, motordyne 1/4 spacer or alum crawford-$350
4. JWT fly&clutch-$900 or Tilton-$1300 semi-street
5. Cams-Dont know about the other products so JWT-$1200
6. ECU- Yeah dont know what to do here, if needed to do anythin
7. Ur crank pulley, not sure, i might go SC in a few years, so is it worth it to free up some hp now??- $150
8. engine dress up and nit noid stuff-$500-700
9. wheels-Volks te37-$2500-$3000
10. Leather 2 tone-katz $500
11. lambo doors-$1000

1-5 performance=3500-3800<---Thats what i need to get
7-11 Style= around 5000 <---not too worried about gettin a lot of it
All estimations of course. Do you think i can reach 300hp? and do i have the best of the best for moneys worth? Just lemme know what u all think reviews and experiences... Thanks and when i do my installs, ill be sure to take pics and vids, ill take requests too

Email or PM Buff (aka Bill) on this board. He's been doing some serious research on modding it NA style. So far, he's done a very good job of putting together a nice package for his Z.

If I were you, don't even bother with the aesthetics of the car if you want all performance.

you will be VERY hard pressed to hit that power NA... especially for 5g's.. I think the only way to do it NA is to go higher compression or get a stroker kit, which will put you well over the 5g mark.

On the other hand you can put a bottle on it for a few hundred and call it a day. But if you find a way to do it please share with the rest of us.

Super Street Magazine June 2004 had an article about the VQ35DE and a list of parts to achieve 300/400/500HP using parts from (Greddy,JWT,Nismo and Stillen)

NA 300HP using JWT parts:
-Pop charger
-Camshafts
-Headers
-Exhaust
-ECU programming

NA 261HP using Nismo Parts:

-CAI
-Camshafts
-Headers
-Exhaust
-ECU programming

greddy and stillen involved a FI method.

All HorsePower mentioned are to the wheels jmcmorante "by the way my gt lambo doors kit arrived and sold"

here are the numbers based on 235HP dyno, which is average. and I suggest the following parts:

Pop charger = 6.5HP = $109 "JWT"
Cams = 15HP = $1100 "JWT"
Headers = 21HP = $650 "Alphawerks"
Exhaust = 12HP = $800 "Borla"
ECU = 11HP = $500 "TechnoSquare or local shop"

since it's not my money also get

UR pulley set $300
JWT flywheel $400

Total = 300HP = $3859
Gains = 65HP = $59 per 1HP ------> not worth it

Supercharger (ATI, Vortech) $5000 = 380HP = $34.50 per 1HP <------ double your gains cut cost by half.

I really do hate to break your heart, but 300rwhp N/A has not been achieved by anyone that I know of yet. I've been looking at that number for over a year now & I'm still trying to get over it.

Glad to hear that you have some experiance with the tools of the trade, you're gonna need them. My suggestions:
Get a Baseline Dyno - will need to watch the A/F more than the numbers (yeah it's nice to see some big numbers straight stock, but that's not what you're after)
Tear into it:
Pop-Charger - $120 (you're already ahead of the game here)
UD Pulley - $200
Crawford Headers $1,100
Crawford Plenum $350 - better order BEFORE tomorrow
Hi-Flow Cats - $400-450 - this engine WILL need some backpressure
Borla/Injen/Stillen Exhaust - $750/900/1,100 (Look for a nice Dual system that YOU like)
MT= Clutch & Flywheel - most guys are going with the Tilton @ $1,000
AT= Valve Body - Stillen has one for @ $700 (will need to have the car dynoed BEFORE the Valve Body so they know where you're at to modify it correctly - so I've heard)

You can do what you want here - you can go with the current cams on the market or wait for some new brands comming out. (Personal favs are the Tomei & the JWT's.) Additional thoughts may be to work out some custom heads (Port & Polished for a start then look to upgrading Valve Springs / Valves - you're in expensive territory here)

Once you've done the cams (or not) Get back to the Dyno - MAKE SURE YOU GET THE A/F READING. (You should have some "noticable" gains for your efforts.)
Pull your ECU send that & BOTH Dyno sheets to either Altered Atmosphere or Technosquare for mapping - $699

All said & done you're looking at spending $3900 or so for your performance parts

Now instead of spending your $1,000 on lambo doors - I'd suggest that you look in to a KAAZa or other plate style rear diff. as well as a 3.9Final Drive from 350Evo. Yeah it's a little more than your lambos, but you'll have a lot mor fun with it.
Wheels are up to you - but I'd be looking for something EXTREMELY light matched with some good rubber.

This is pretty much not going to happen. There are people here who have done that exact same setup and got nowhere near 300whp. Superstreet is either flat out lying or they dont know how to read dyno charts.

Both.. they wanna sell. As I said on paper he's getting 300, why not spend his money on a tested 380 FI to be safe and FAST

From all I've read & seen it's going to run better than 5K to build a machine to last with FI. Ask KShep what he's spent on his TTs or Tere what she's up to with SC.
It all looks good on paper, but reality is a Bitch that will bite you every time.

The reccommendations that I made will get close to 300 (head work & agressive cams will put you over - they just aren't done yet) and be VERY reliable.

Couldnt have put it better than what Buff has said. Not a single car that I know of has broken the 300 N/A hp barrier. F/I will run you well over 5k and can easily get into the over 10k range without blinking an eye. The VQ is just one hard engine to get poower out of with just bolt ons as it was tuned very well out of the factory.

We won't be for sure how much this motor can hold stock until a few more months have passed. The blown motors all could have been caused from the crank and cam angle sensor wire.

A guy on my350z.com has a 500rwhp stock motor APS TT (11psi), the kit he got had a shielded crank and cam angle sensor wire, so we'll see how much this motor can hold.

Wow, i forgot i posted here on Tech, lol Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

SIRZALOT, what crawford package u talkin about
NOURARNAOUT, which headers offers 21hp!!! lol
BUFF, great advice, I have the Top speed headers, is it worth keeping or should i get crawford, also i think i might get test pipes instead of cats is that a mistake? and where did u see the tilton setup for 1g, i would get street, but i heard good things of the UR flywheel, hmm

I wanna have all parts on hand by at least mid March, planning on doing this all late march or early April

heres an update for that list

i think i wanna get the UR 12 lb flywheel $599, but im not sure what clutch i would get with it...any recomendations

as for cats, or test pipes, ill most likely get resonated test pipes, screw emissions lol....

for the plenum spacer, im deciding on the motordyne one $150

getting the lightweight Underdrive pulley for $65

So right now adding 1,2,3,4,5,and 7 im lookin at $3,200+a clutch so ill prolly have 1500 or more to spend on anything else

Yes i know no one has hit 300 yet, thats why i will try my hardest to damnit lol. I have a lot of faith in this engine... 287hp was the official nissan number right? (i know not at the wheels) So in theory, if you add on 4 or 5 bolt ons you should be around 325-350 depending what you get. So the only hard part here is to get the car to have as little drive train loss as possible. So add a Clutch and a flywheel that should eliminate half of the loss. and then a tweak of a computer should put me over the top, well hopefully. Does anyone know the RWHP of the 35th 300hp Z? I just gotta hope that i mix my parts well and everything works as a team

I wanted lambo doors for my 240 til i talked to some guys w/ the kits installed. they don't seal right and they don't just close, you have to bring them down, line them up right, then pull them shut. I would go w/ something like shaved door handles, or something of that nature if you really want to do some extirior (**** that was mispelled) mods. Also lambo doors r really heavy. If i were in your shoes i'd spend the money on performance, not just hp but braking and handling as well.

Lambo doors are just changing the door hinge so the existing door opens differently. I don't think it's that much of a problem to pull the door down and then shut it. And the doors WILL seal right if you align the hinges properly.
