I know, it isn't much. But have set aside $3K to do something to my new, '05 SB z, Touring.
I would love to hear some experience based opinions on what to do with $3K on a stock touring.
Some guidelines:
1. I don't want to void the warranty.
2. I am not very experienced in the modification, mechanical or racing world.
3. I would appreciate setting my z apart with physical appearance enhancements (front end)
4. I have some ideas: tinting the windows (with a cool looking, not gaudy, color tint) a radar detector that i can put the sensor in the front and rear and have the "unit" in the place the nav. system would be, a performance computer that reports hp, 1/4 and 0-60. (I escort makes one??),

Thanks for your ideas. I don't have money sitting around so I want to make the best decisions and I believe the folks on this site can provide some great ideas!

If you want something to set you apart from other Z's, then $3k can buy you a nice set of wheels to attract attention. I think it's the best bang for your buck when modifying the aesthetics of the car.

Otherwise, you could spend it on a stereo system and have a virtual entertainment system in your car. Or maybe some performance mods such as exhaust, pulley, intake, plenum and headers.

For a bodykit, you could buy a decent one for that price, but you also have to take into account the price for prepping, painting, and installation of that kit.

Or you could just give the money to me! :rolf2:

3K could get you the following:

1.) Decent set of wheels and tires
or
2.) Decent body kit painted and installed
or
3.) - Tint job (NO COLOR - just a 20% or 35% black tint ONLY) ~ $200
- Front lip - painted and installed ~$500
- Catback Exhaust ~$1000
- Hotckis TVS suspension W/ Alignment ~500 or ~$600 if you don't install it
- Valentine One Radar Detector ~$400
With the remaining $, maybe get some test pipes, plenum, maybe put it towards a new HU, or take your ol' lady out for dinner

Wheels are definitely the #1 thing to set your Z apart from others and get some attention. You don't have to dump all 3k into the wheels though because i'm sure you would like to do other things as well. There are a few nice looking wheels that can be had for under 2k which will still leave you some money for things like tint, maybe a lip for the front bumper. Of course these are all show mods.

I was concerned when I saw the "moderator," I guess moved my thread about spending 3K to the "newbie" forum, however, you have all been very gracious in sharing your opinions. Thank you.

If I may request of the moderators or whomever manages this site to at least consider putting this thread back on the 'general' site.

I posted this at my350z.com and I have had almost 3x the response as this site.

Thanks

The quality of the response to your querry is more important than the quantity. Any moron can type in "give it to me"....

Good luck with your decision...when you have the options narrowed down please let us know. You won't find a better source of info on any site that can assist you when it comes time to install/troubleshoot the modifications you purchase for the 350Z.

Dave entered the patent response after offering some useful info...unlike a member on the other board. Smooth is no moron...Buff on the other hand.

You know, everyone always does all the motor stuff first.... I'd say wheels/tires like some said. Then again, with that said, I did suspension first, and if you're after more performance than looks, you might still be able to squeeze in some wider, lighter 17s in there...

Or take $2000, but a used bike, and buy $1000 worth of leathers/helmet/gloves ;)

I agree about quality over quantity.

Well, here's what I've done/am doing to my newly-aquired Z Enthusiast:

New rims/tires (19's - and Toyo's staggered - 285/30's in the rear): $2500
Tint: $200
Nismo CAI (next Friday): $500
Hawk brake pads: $75 (I can't STAND the brake dust!)

To me, if I start doing more performance modifications, I'll never stop! The stock suspension is fine for me.

Good luck!
