350z tachometer rises fast when reaching 50mph

My automatic z made a “clank” noise when I shifted from 1-2 gear. I immediately let go of the gas and put it back in D. While driving I noticed that the tachometer would be at 4 rpm while driving 41mph. It would keep rising and be at 6 rpm when around 55 mph, I know it shouldn’t do that and go down when it reaches a certain rom. I’m still new to car repair and I know I’m not a bad driver. I don’t race the car but use it as a daily. Please help, I really appreciate it

The year is a 2004, just changed oil not long ago, I don’t know previous maintenance from previous owner,
the “clank” only happened once and hasn’t happened when accelerating or decelerating, no clanking has happened when putting in neutral, park, or drive,
Welcome Fran and while it's hard to know what caused the "clank" you heard, it's probably nothing good. There's little use in speculating and the only way to know for sure would be to drop the tranny and do a complete inspection. It would help to know how many miles are on the car, and while you have no service records, a UOA of the tranny fluid itself might turn up a few clues.
Update: I turned off the car for a few hours and turned it on again to drive home, now the cars running normal again, thanks for the help tho! I’ll still get it inspected just in case.
Glad to hear the car is back to running normally. But I suggest you consider changing the tranny fluid if the mileage is over 60K since you have no idea if it's ever been changed before.

Check trans fluid, may be low. Have trans serviced, if there is trash in pan, prepare to rebuild.
