Im in the market for a 2005 G35. I have one that I'm looking at and plan on buying. The only issue is that it's got a blown motor. The seller has a motor already from a 2008 350z. I dont know the trim level of the z he just mentioned it came out of a 2008 350z and only has 18,000 miles. My question is will this bolt right up to the existing transmission and harness or will their need to be modifications to get it running. This needs to be plug and play. I've done motor swaps before so it wouldn't be my first however I'm new to Nissan's and Infinitis and trying to get some background information before I buy this car. Thanks for the help and I much appreciate it.

Welcome and the answer to your question is that it WON'T be a plug-n-play swap. Why? The '08 VQ35HR engine is quite different than the '05 VQ35DE that is blown. You'll have to swap the entire body harness, relays and sensors (not just the engine harness and ECM) to make it work.

We did accomplish such a swap for the Nissan Sport Magazine project Z, but that was a W2W racecar. There will always be CELs since the '05 G doesn't have the same electronic architecture as the engine you're trying to transplant. Forget about passing a emissions test, if they're required in your area.

Even if this G35 is a bargain, you're only investing in a hearbreaker. There's better options out there- keep looking!

Dkmura thanks for the advice however I didnt see this before I made the purchase. So now my question is where do I go from here? I did number hours of research and had the impression that it should all fit and not be an issue. I havent done much work but getting it cleaned up. I had plans on pulling the transmission but I wont now if this swap is a major headache. Sorry for the newbie post but I'm trying to learn on the fly. The original owner also told me it shouldnt be a hard swap.

The original owner had only a wild assed guess on engine swaps. The mechanical swap is possible, but it's the wiring that is difficult. Unless you're able to find a wiring specialist to work on your harness, IPDM and ECM, I'd say you should forget it. Particularly if you want to avoid CELs all the time. It's not even close to a plug-n-play swap.

Try and sell the engine that he gave you with the purchase and meanwhile buy a VQ35DE to fit into your car, it will save you a ton of hassle.
