we may be astonished at the weight issue being far less heavy than what many speculate. if Nissan is taking any advice from Lotus, they're not just doing up the suspension. the Exige's monocoque is glued-together sections of aluminum. it may be lighter than the 350Z. or at least the same weight. maybe.

Ok, one cases where they actually talk to a designer who gives them specs like 80-90% done, I believe, but engine, weight, etc etc is not even hinted by anyone at Nissan. SCM goes online to look for the "latest rumors." At least I know how it happens, who do you think told them the GT-R was going to be at the 2005 TMS, Rezz and me had spread mention of it much before the actual show. Then people caught on, I've done my fair share elsewhere to safely say I know what's a crapload and what isn't.

welp, nissan is pretty tight lipped about the engine specs cuz they don't clearly know it themselves. They won't commit to any clear number til chassis, tranny's been worked out first. Nissan officials clearly states the ridgity of gt-r and how well it's going to handle. If they decide to make the gt-r light as 2900lbs, the hp number may even come down to low 400 with the 3.5. I believe their power number will largely depend on the weight. The gt-r test mules have already been sited and I'm surprise nobody brought up anything about the sound.

in my opinion, if Nissan doesn't know what the engine is by now, it's too phoqing late, charlie.

the car should nearly be finalised by now. it's only a year away. they need to tool the factory and create an entire infrastructure for the GTR's production far ahead of time, and it is not something they can create overnight.

you raise a good point about the monocoque, as in the Exige, if she's that light the HP can come down.

Nissan knows what the engine is.............they just dont want you to know. If you knew what the engine was and all the specs on the car. There would be no threads like this and all the discussion of the GTR would die down. If we knew all about it........we would just be sitting around waiting for it to be released instead of keeping the "legend" of the GTR alive with all these threads.

which engine? yes, I'm sure they know by now.. but I think it's a possibility to bore it to a larger liter if the final weight is a pig, don't you guys think? They're planning to use generous amount of dry carbon, but we all know how expensive that can be. prolly more cost effective for them to use slightly aggressive tune+more weight, than weight reduction+less power. We're already whining about the $$ and 70k+ is already waay pushing it for me :(

Doesn't it almost seem impossible for the GT-R to weigh in at low 3,000lbs, let alone under 3,000lbs? The Ferrari Enzo weighs more than that and so does the Carrera GT and they do so with only RWD and front wheel steering. The GT-R is suppose to be AWD, AWS, Twin Turbos, Seat 4 People and weigh low 3,000lbs? Wow thats crazy if that happens! I will definitely look foward to it. The closest competitor is the Porsche 997 TT, it is AWD, Twin Turbo and weighs over 3,400lbs. Porsche is always focused on low weight and they didn't get it done. The new light-weight GT3 weighs low 3,000lbs, but it is only RWD and non turbo (very spartan interior). The GT-R is suppose to have a host of gadgets. It's going to be a miracle if they achieve the target weight goals!

Even if the new GT-R is made of all Carbon Fiber I don't see them getting to that weight target unless they go RWD and the car is as small if not smaller than a RX-7.

Certainly, the parts of the car will weigh close to the Supra, 997, Z06, etc. and it will harness similar power figures, anywhere from 400-500hp.

Do you mean AWS as in all wheels turning or something?
We don't expect it to weigh in at 3,000lbs, but rest assured we will likely see 2,200 pound heavywight time-attack battler's. It's a matter of time really before a tuning shop from Japan hacks away at the chassis and uses carbon fiber for everything, like HKS with the Altezza, HKS with the Evo, C-West S2000 and J's Racing with the S2000, and a bunch of other shops. All the cars are made super light with the aid of CF. J's Racing dropped the S2000 from 3,000 to less than 2,200, a feat in itself.
