Meh, I kinda like GT-R by itself. It will be hard to nickname it like the Z31, Z32, or Z33.

that number designates a series. R35 already exists. It is called the G35/Skyline.

The GT-R is breaking ties to the Skyline from now on, so they may come up with a new numbering scheme.

I was thinking about the fact that the new GT-R isn't based on any of the old Skylines as far as series. I know they are borrowing some design ideas (stretching it here), but I had always thought from all the reading I've done that this is going to be a new series.

I didn't know they referred to the G35 as the R35, although it makes logical sense.

the number after the chassis code letter does not represent the engine displacement or anything else of importance for that matter.

for example, the 350z/fairlady z uses the vq35 yet these cars are the Z33 to Nissan.

the skyline series moved from R34 to V35 with the introduction of the G35. (the BNR34 was the last Skyline GT-R, the CPV35 is the current SKyline 350GT / G35 coupe)
this is probably to differentiate them from past cars but at the same time acknowledge that it is a successor.

its entirely possible that the GT-R will keep the chassis letter R and that the next GT-R will be R35. I think its unlikely that it will be an R37 or V36 (which is the next g35).

If your referring to chassis codes only, then yes. But otherwise it's just going to be GT-R. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later(it would depart from Skyline AND R-designation), I don't think anyone will really care about the chassis code, except us I'm afraid. I personally always have been fond of a new R-3x, but alas, it's not going to happen. Makes us work harder (to get known) with current competition from already established skyline and gtr sites which have been around for years. I wish that they would come to their senses and call it Nissan R36 GTR, but no, they have too big of an ego for that.

Are you saying we need professional help because of our curiosity?
