Hi guys,

just using the UK forum on here to update our members about the unforecasted outage of our site: there has been a hardware fault and our hosts, after rectifying it, still can not manage to boot the server. Our site is currently being transferred to a diffferent server rack, and there hasn't been any data loss.

Last time a hardware fault happened was during Easter holidays, it always seems to happen when there's not many staff and/or at weekends

Anyway hold tight, fingers crossed we should be back up by Xmas day...

some more info from our hosts:

"OK, spent some time talking to my hosters and here's what I've got.

At some point on the night of the 22nd Dec, the server hung. They went to investigate and found that it wouldn't boot up on the RAID set. Every piece of hardware was changed and they moved the disks to a new server and it still would not boot.

So they moved the disk over to a different server so I could re-run backups of all the data. The good news is that no data is lost and I'm currently backing everything up to a different server.

Once this is done they will try again to get the server booting up on the proper disk. If they're successful then everything will come back up again as it was. If not, they'll re-provision the server which means I'll have to re-install all the sites and DBs again

So it could be worse... but it also be a lot better. What's making things tricky is that I have very limited internet access right now, and due to the Xmas period my hosters are running on a skeleton crew.

If you could let the other 305z'ers know what's going on I'd appreciate it. Let them know I'm doing everything I can to get this sorted - it's just a huge amount of bad luck to have this happen at such a difficult time!!! "
