So check out this Z... looks freaking gorgeous... what kind of paint does that? Either buying all custom colored parts, or doing some sort of spraying...which is fine, but how does he get the anodized blue look???

Well I can tell you the all the hose locks and the intake locks, as well as the fluid caps (radiator, oil, washer fluid, power steering etc) came like that....in the color anodized blue. He/she got the grounding kit in blue.... I'm thinking the only thing that's painted aftermarket in that engine bay are the battery/brake fluid covers and the engine cover. As well as the end pieces for the strut bar (which if you look carefully they don't match exactly)....not sure about the bolt heads . Whose engine bay is that? (where did you get that pic?) Kinda reminds me of Randall P's....I haven't seen pics of his in a long time but it was all blinged out like that...

It came like that?!? I want that engine compartment lol

What do you think they used to paint the parts that WERE self painted?

Yes those PARTS were purchased aftermarket in that color.......(the hose locks and fluid caps)

I'm pretty sure they used color matched paint for those few parts that were painted....(Daytona Blue paint)

LOL that purple engine bay on that link belongs to my friend Cathy and hers is WAY more blinged out now lol

Terry from Zeetoyz used to sell those parts BTW but they were Pithon pieces and pithon is not making them anymore, not sure if he has found another source or not... you can see the same engine bay featured on his website BTW.....and as you can see if you visit his site those pieces are no longer for sale in his "engine" section....

So technically, I could just go out and get some Daytona Blue paint?

It would probably be easier(and I might just do this) if I get some metallic/semi gloss blue paint at Lowes or something.

and I guess primer and clearcoat. I have a "clear enamel" but learned it's not the same as clearcoat haha

If you don't have the time to do it right,
when will you have time to do it over again?

Yeah you can even get "daytona blue" paint in a spray can from http://www.paintscratch.com/ Paint code is B17....just use the pull down menus to get to that color. In order to make it look as good as THAT you are going to have to do a lot of prep work on those pieces.....and if you look closely, that person (I'm still thinking that's Randall's engine bay) taped off the words and had them painted in silver (battery....etc) and the V6 3.5 was taped off and painted in silver as well.....

Aloha,
The plastic parts require prep work prior to painting. Degreaser/plastic cleaner, Adhesion promoter, primer, base coat and probably clear. i'm also guessing the paint didn't come from Lowe's. Terri has a good suggestion to purchase the color match paint. It's the easiest to use use a rattle can if you don't have a gun. Still, proper prepwork is the most important to keep the paint on the plastic and making it last and look good.

That looks like one of our OG mods by the name of Scott. I forget his SN, but I'm pretty sure that was his car.

Did Scott have a DB? Dang what WAS his SN?

Edit: TrackZ03....damn I'm good. Good call close but no cigar, I didn't think he had a DB.....here's his engine bay thread....he had the same color scheme on the engine cover but he had a CS Z....

https://www.350z-tech.com/forums/index.php?...ic=7150&hl=

I'm still pretty sure that is/was Randall P's engine bay on that site.... I'd have to do some searching on Motoring to figure that out LOL....I only know how to find the really old stuff on this site HAHAH!

and yeah I rock, I've been around the block on these forums too many times It IS Randall's engine bay http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/modific...engine-bay.html
