I'm bringing this thread back from the dead...but I have the same problem. Drivers door will not fully unlock and will not allow me to open it from outside or inside!

The lock switch inside will not rock all the way back to unlock and when I try the key outside it turns left about halfway then you can feel something almost bending inside the door but will not unlock.

Using the key fob unlock button makes a clicking sound from the door lock motor but still fails to fully unlock.

Now, how the heck do I get the door open? This problem seems to be common, someone must have a fix?? Any help is appreciated.

Something in the linkage inside the door, I'm guessing. probably a clip that has come loose or broken. going to require removing the inner door panel to get a look at it.

+1 to Perf.

Sounds like something is wrong with the linkages inside of the door. I'd remove the interior door panel and take a look around.

I'm having a similar problem. When I unlock the door, I cannot open it from the outside but I can open it from the inside. This just happened two days ago. When it first happened I had unlocked the door using the remote. I pulled the handle but it would not open. After I pulled the handle three times it finally opened but it has not opened properly since. I can use the remote or the key to lower the windows and then I can pull the lever on the inside to open the door. I cannot open it from the outside.

Again - you will probably have to pull the inner door skin and see what is disconnected/broken. Above posters never got back to us with their fix, if any. One of my major annoyances with the forums - if you post a problem it would be nice to hear your solution, assuming you found one!

The same thing happened to me yesterday and after almost 20 minutes i successfully opened the door and was able to take off the door panel to inspect the door locking mechanism and all the clips and everything seemed intact and nothing was broken. I sprayed wd-40 and greased up everything .. hope this helps but i closed and opened the door atleast 50 times if i encounter the same problem again i will let you guys know because i will be replacing the door handle and the complete locking mechanism

Hey guys. I've been a long time user of the site but just finally registered. I'm on my second 2003 Z.

I am having the same problem. Door won't open from the inside or outside.... How the heck do I get the door panel off when door won't open?

I had the same exact issue it took me almost an hour to open the door and when I took the panel off I honestly couldnt find NOTHING AT ALL .. so I sprayed everything with wd-40 and put brake grease on some of the mechanisms and today out of all days (almost one year later) it sort of did it again and I locked it and unlocked it then it opened thank GOD ... my buddy at nissan told me it was the door lock actuators that isnt pushing the rod to open all the way and doesnt let the handle from the inside or out open the door because it gets stuck he told me to bang lightly on the outside door handle next time but im definitely going to replace the actuators and going to let you guys know how it goes

This worked for me. Well, some part of it did. In my case, with a Murano, it's turn to the left to roll the windows down. Anyway, when I turned and held the key to the right (I think), I heard a different "clunk" and then unlocked and I was able to open the door. There does seem to be something that gets out of whack. Not sure if the windows actually have anything to do with it, or if the key factor is using the key in the lock and holding it.

Anyway, I basically followed your steps, other than reversing the key turn directions, and it worked! Thank you thank you
