Outside door handles

Weird question on my 2006 350z touring convertible. Driver outside door handle stopped working and about 3 weeks later the passenger outside door handle stopped working. I can still open the door by inserting the key and lowering the window on the driver side and open it from the inside.

Any ideas what would cause this?? I don't want to run out and buy new handles if I dont need to.

If you can still open the doors from the inside, it means the door rods are still intact and hooked up inside the panels. I suspect there's an electric lock fault inside the door switch panel itself. This won't be easy to diagnose yourself and I suggest you pay the dealer diagnostic fee (usually an hour of shop time) and have them figure it out.

Common issue on Z33s. Take out the door handle, you'll see where it's broken.

Replace the outside door handle. It's a 10 minute job. (5 minutes since you already took it out.)

Oh, and do it before the inside handle connector breaks (lame nylon retainer). Not an "If" but a "When".

In my case, the handle needed replacing. I've read that's somewhat common. There's one stupidly designed plastic part that breaks. FWIW, I replaced it myself, and I'm far less handy than most of these folks.

The passenger door too perhaps 5 mins. More time was spent trying to find the socket, socket wrench extension and a magnetic wand. You will need either a deep socket or extension for the bottom bolt.
